SOURCE: 94 Camry steering hard to turn like it has no power steering. It has the rack replaced and steering knuckle replaced

Does the power steering have fluid in it. Is the belt on the pump. With it running take the cap off of the pump and see if fluid is moving around. If u feel the steering knucle is to tight u can also take the tie rod off and see if it turns free. Also go back to who fixed it and say its not right, Make it right. Most garages give 12 month or 12.000 mile warranty.

Just put new power steering pump in 2009 f350 but steering still tight could this be a faulty pump or do I need to bleed system

Does the pump still whine? How did you purge the air? Fords have always been a pain. So I do them all the same (newer ones could be different, But) When I replace a pump or rack or hoses, I pull fuses to keep the engine from running. With the engine running the pump turns to fast and will not purge the air, causing the fluid to come out of the PS pump vent down the road. What I do is pull those fuses, crank the engine and turn the steering wheel at least ten times from one side to the other. Left to right is one time. This method works every time. Old Fords to new ones. You could have bought a bad pump, But the rack and pinion could also be bad. Things to look for on the rack leaks are, Fluid around the boots, Fluid from the top of the gear to the steering shaft, and fluid from the bottom cover of the steering gear, Right below the steering shaft. Any of these indicate a bad seal. But the main seal is in the center of the rack. It can be bad and have no leaks. this is uncommon though.

Remove rack pinion

if your going to replace the rack and pinion make sure you pull the screw completely out of the rack. there actually is a place on the round splines made to receive the screw. you should see a place rounded out for the screw to go through. if you still have problems with getting it out you can try to use two flat screw drivers to pry up on the rack where it goes down on the splines. make sure that you have your wheels straight when you put the new rack back in so that the rack will turn the wheels properly to the right and to the left the same amount of turns each way. keep your steering wheel straight so that it is in the right way that your able to see your speedometer and dash lights or gauges. make sure that your steering wheel is straight across horizontal. let me know if this helps you. god bless

Replaced the power steering pump still hard to turn

If the pump is ok then the problem lies in the power rack and pinion unit. This is a common problem, and is caused by internal "O" ring seal leakage due to a scored piston bore inside the rack and pinion. You can try having the system fluid flushed clean and adding a of bottle LUCUS brand power steering fluid conditioner, I have seen this correct the problem. I have personally used the product and it works, not all the time but it is worth a try, the replacement of the steering rack is about a $900.00 job parts and labor.

Changed power steering pump for lexus 1999 gs400 and it still doesnt work with the power steering I did purchase a used oem rack and pinion as well had the used parts both installed and it still is not...

you need to bleed the rack. you can try to turn the steering wheel to the left and hold for 5 sec and then to the right and hold, continue this a few times check fluid and repeat. you can also try to loosen line on rack and turn wheel to bleed air out then tighten before turning wheel again.

try lucas power steering stop-leak. drain some of the fuild and then pour that in. it is for surging rack & pinions, not just for leaks. if that doesn't work then you may have a defective rebuilt rack.
check power steering pump pressure, might be weak.
