Locate your vehicle's computer connector (ALDL), most are on the lower driver's side. In some vehicles you might need to look around a little, on the passenger's side, and around the center console under a plastic cover. For more information, check your owner's manual. This device gathers information that was stored in your carsECM. This information ortrouble code can inform you the system or sensor that is malfunctioning. Look up the code in our diagnostic trouble code chart. After repairs have been made use the code scanner to clear trouble codes and recheck system. B. Testing Fuel Pressure. Test for proper fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge. Connect the gauge to the test port on the fuel rail. Fuel pressure reading's very depending on the system your in our vehicle, but most throttle body injection cars (TBI) are between 13 psi and 17 psi. and most (DPI) direct port injection systems are between 40 psi and 55 psi. To find out your vehicle system fuel pressure consult arepair manual. If little fuel pressure is present the fuel pump needs to be replaced.

C. Test for Weak Ignition Spark
. A weak ignition system can be a sign of a failing ignition component. Remove spark plug wire and insert an extra spark plug into end of wire, attach spark plug to engine ground then crank engine. You should observe blue spark between spark plug gap. If a yellow spark is observed, your ignition coil is weak and needs to be replaced. If your spark is not consistent you may need a ignition module.

D. Inspect the Main ECM Relay
. If the ECM relay fails it will shut down the engine management system. This relay carries high amperage and is prone to failure. To test install new relay then test drive to recheck symptoms.

E. Testing the Ignition Switch
. This test requires a electronic test light. When vehicle dies test the power side (+) of your ignition coil with the key on, the test light should illuminate. If your test light is not lighting suspect your ignition switch or ignition relay. To trouble shoot this condition you will needwiring schematic for your car.

SOURCE: 1997 Neon dies, starts after electric fuel pump relay swapped

Hello, I would assume this is your fuel pump inside your tank. I would first however do some basics like a general tuneup. For starters I would replace your spark plugs and wires, rotary cap and button and check your fuses. Run some injector cleaner through your system. You know quick simple cheap things before you get to the fuel pump inside the gas tank which can be kinda expensive. The warm up then dies can be caused by, "blownout or fouled," spark plugs. I hope this gives you a general direction in which to go. A sidenote is that coil packs do not normally run an igntion code and I for one do not like them becuase they are expensive.

Yes,there is a special wrench that fits the water pump. You have to loosen bolts on pump and put wrench on pump and turn pump to get belt on. Then tighten pump till marks line up on tensioner, then tighten the pump back down. Be sure to roll the engine around twice and recheck timing marks on crank and cams.

2000 dodge neon will run on starting fluid once, then no start

You're either out of gas or you need a new fuel pump.
Roll the keys back to the 'off' position.
Have someone sit by the back tire and listen as you roll the key forward until the lights on the dash come on DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE OVER.

If they hear the pump then you're out of gas, if they don't hear the pump your pump is likely burned up.

Water pump is bad because overheats when engine is running at low speed, and good at high rev. The water pump impeller can not push the coolant with the required pressure.

Mail.comI am leaking antifreeze. The Nissan dealer checked it and said it was the water pump. Where is the water pump located exactly? Thanks

The water pump is part of the timing belt assembly, on the front of the engine, so it is labor intensive to replace. Most will recommend you replace the timing belt, idler pulleys, timing belt tensioner and seals at the same time, so you don't have to do the job twice. Most reputable shops will always replace the water pump when they perform a timing belt replacement package, again so you don't have to do the job twice. Hope this helps. Have a nice weekend :O)

Changed the water pump and timing belt now my car idles rough it won't start unless my feet is on the gas on the road it runs fine until i slow down

when you installed the timing belt back on the gears you have gotten one or more teeth out of time on the cam gears this is why it runs good on the road but badly when idling.you will have to remove the timing cover and reset the engine on #1 compression and check all the timing marks and make sure they are in the proper position.re-adjust and recheck all marks are in the proper position after rotating the motor twice.

We replaced the thermastate on the Chevy Cavalier. It is still running hot and heater will not kick in.

have you checked the water pump to insure that the coolant is circulating? with radiator cap off, look inside the radiator,do you see the coolant moving around? if not, check the water pump. with engine off, shake the water pump pulley, does it wobble when shaken? if so,it's bad.if good, then check to insure the radiator fan comes on when engine is at operating temerature. does fan come on at all?if not, then check your fuses under the hood for a blown cooling fan fuse.it almost has to be either bad water pump or a fan problem.if you've replaced the thermostat twice and still no heat and it's overheating.if pump checks good, and fans coming on like it should,i also suggest you flush the radiator.there may be a blockage in it also.hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com

Check your impeller in the seawater pump ( at the front of the engine )
If the impeller blades stays even lightly bent after removal, change the impeller.
Check for obstructions in the hoses.
Remove the water hose going to the exhaust.
Run the engine, if here you have a good water flow ( more than at the exhaust itself ) the the exhaust mixer is obstructed. Try to clean out with HCl acid. USE ACID resistand GLOVES. Rince twice as well after the obstruction is gone...
