Question about 1999 Acura TL

99 Acura TL dies when I try to start

99 Acura TL (129K miles) dies when I try to start, this doesn't happpen 100% of the time probably around 65%. Sometimes I have to try to start 3-6 times until it finally stays on. It had died one time in the last few months while actually driving, I pulled over and it started after a few try's and has never done it again so far. It kinda seems to me like it dies more often in hot weather vs. mild weather. I just replaced the battery and I am hesitant to take it to Acura ($$$). THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

I have helped many Honda/Acura owners on this issue. Many mechanics will replace many parts prior to solving this problem, which then creates unnecessary repairs and spending. So here is my diagnosis: Notice if your speedometer drops to zero when your engine dies while driving. If this happens its your ignition switch failing. Ignition switches in Honda/Acura vehicles years 97-02 encounter faulty or shorted internal contacts. This causes premateur electrical failure to vital engine electrical parts, causing vehicle to stall intermittedly. A recall has been in place since 2002, approximately 1.3mil vehicles are affected, call your local honda/acura dealer for info and possible free repair or replace the ignition switch yourself. Hopefully my info helps you!!

battery will need to be replaced and codes cleared from ecu, tcs light more then likely coincidence due to another possible failure, or due to battery problem cause the ecu to code, and needs to be reset.

My acura TL 2004's passenger side HID will not turn on, most of the times. it probably works once in 20 tries. its just the HID. any idea?

Without seeing the light's operation - I'd suspect a faulty ballast. Those are pretty expensive though - so I wouldn't just go replacing it. If you're handy with electrical, you could probably diagnose it 100% yourself - otherwise I'd recommend having your local trusty auto repair facility diagnose and repair it for you.

Good Luck!

When do I have to change a timing belt on a 2002 Acura TL with 59K miles?

Timing chain? When it goes bad. If you're reffering to the belt on the front of the motor, you can wait till it goes bad or change it whenever you want. I would reccomend every 20 to 25 thousand miles.

2000 acura tl wont start. tries to start but just

You definitly have a timing problem. I dont think its a fuel problem due to the age of your car. Its about past due for a timing belt/chain replacement.

Should I replace the timing belt & water pump at the 90k for my 2005 acura tl

Yes it would be a very good idea to change them all at once. You can't go wrong there because most timing belts and water pumps go out around 90-100,000 miles. Go for it I would.

Good Luck!
