Question about Mahindra Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

What is the layout in a diff of a Mahindra bolero DC? Mine's pinion bearing is gone I suppose because it is making a screetching noise. There is no play though between the propshaft and the pinion.

The centre bearing is already replaced. There is oil in the diff. Is it easy to replace the pinion bearing if propshaft is disconnected? Is there only one bearing?

All diffs are constructed the same
check if there is any oil in the diff
if a bearing was faulty on the pinion , you will have movement at the pinion flange up/down /in/out
if you have a center bearing in the drive shaft , consider that the bearing has failed there producing the noise

My Honda 2004 CR-V develops a howling noise from the rear of the car after about 20 miles of driving. I have changed the rear differential fluid, and burnished the differential clutches per Honda Service...

A howling noise from a diff is an indication of the gear mesh( pinion to crown wheel) is not correct. Several reasons being worn pinion bearings--loss of preload on the pinion bearings --- crown wheel carrier bearings failing ---not sufficient preload on the bearings---wear on the teeth from incorrect diff oil in use. or simply wrong diff oil. The grade should be 80w90 OEP for normal or special oil for limited slip diffs.

2006 chev 3500 duramax 4x4 noisely differential when coasting at 50 mph, stops under torque and braking

Pull the diff drain plug and check for metal on the magnetic pad. It sounds as if the tapered bearing on the diff pinion is failing. When under load the pressure is on the larger bearing next to the pinion gear bur under coaste the load shifts to the bearing next the the pinion drive nut I suspect that bearing is failing allowing the pinion to comes out of correct mesh position causing the noise.

Noise from rear diff when taking off only after high speed.

Likely bad bearings. I've seen these with bad axle bearings, carrier bearings, and pinion bearings all at the same time. Perhaps since the oil thins as it heats up from driving, the noise is more pervelant?

It's the wheel bearing. Guaranteed. Just replaced mine. Go to Audiworld tech articles for step by step instructions on how to test the wheel bearings. They must have been put in wrong last time or they just went out again.
