I've never heard of anyone trying that, or putting any liquids for that matter. I would try just a little bit of clean water. Maybe a cup and watch and see what happens. By the way, your question is in the wrong category. This is for cars and trucks. You want the kitchen appliance section.

I have a 1987 Isuzu Impulse turbo with a T3T4 turbo and intercooler installed. It won't idle. Accelerator to the floor is the only way it'll stay running. What will fix this?


well if car is stock, is it? is PCM stock and matches your turbo?

did you run the diag flash codes yet? jumper?
ALDL pin 1 to 3. for code 12 (ok) 3 is ground wire.

the map and IAT ,(and pcm tables) are used to calculate all fueling rates. The map is baro sensor. air pressure (called vacuum)
and the pressure drop, is what causes fuel rates to rise.
turbo or no turbo.

if car is not stock now's that time to fess up. ?
and full spec. of whats there. as we can not guess any of that.

i see it has an I-tech unit and an turbo controler
and and air modulator, device, (no clues to what it does)
id recommend buying a REAL FSM to work on this complex setup.

Afraid you probably have engine issues. White smoke was water. clanking could have been apex seals. You need to have a compression test done.

Im going to guess that you have the 420A engine 2.0L 4cyl non-turbo engine. They make the turbos for your car for the ones that come with a stock turbo that means that yes you can add a turbo. BUT it also means thats not the only thing your going to have to do to it. Better heads for the heat and power, bigger exhaust, FINE tuning so you dont blow your engine. It will eventually get pretty pricey, i recommend trading for a model with a stock turbo since adding a bigger faster turbo is a much easier and cheaper process.

bigger is not better when it comes to turbo units as Leyland found out when they fitted a turbo to a 690 diesel that resulted in the destruction of the engines and damage to the company reputation of a reliable engine manufacturer
Subsequent engineering found that a much smaller turbo produced more power without the destroying the engine
The turbo fitted to the engine originally is the correct unit for the maximum power that the engine mechanicals can handle
What you have to do is to ensure that the variable vanes of the turbo are working correctly and there are no boost pressures lost from intercooler leaks and loose hoses
Run the fault codes to determine sensor and actuators for the existing turbo are fully operational

Mk3 Supra Turbo Boost Gauge Problems


The gauge is working fine, the turbo will not kick in untill the engine is spinning fast enough, as the turbo is propelled by exaughst from the engine. So, you can drive around normal and never use the turbo, and climb in the gas and spool the turbo up, what you are noticing is called turbo lag, which is the biggest down fall when compaired to superchargers!

Most likely yes, but you may want to investigate whether a second-hand turbo is a better option price-wise. I don't know what the TDI turbos sell for, but on the gas engines, the stock K03 turbos only go for a couple hundred dollars (or less) used, with no endplay. It may be less hassle to just source a replacement in order to get your car back on the road. You could then have your turbo rebuilt at your leisure and keep it as a spare.
