The rear end would have nothing to do with shifting. Is this an automatic or manual transmission?

The term 'Rear End' when used with a vehicle, is a slang term for Rear Differential. Your engine turns the transmission, which in turn turns a driveshaft, finally turning the rear differential. The gears inside the differential turn axles, and your rear wheels are connected to these axles.

These two link explain the basics of a differential,

The rear differential, has Nothing to do with why your transmission won't shift. Manual or Automatic. I suggest you find a competent shop, and leave That One Alone!

STOP!!! This is a common problem with the blazer. It is not the same with the reverse going out which is also a regular issue, but if you had any other warning lights come on such as the anti-lock brake light it isn't the tranny. It is the control modual.

Disconnect the battery for at least 10 seconds. Reconnect the battery and test drive to see if that fixed the problem. If so it is the CPU (central Proccessing Unit) AKA the computer. It is the black box located over the front wheel well on the passenger side, on top, and near the firewall. It may never happen again or you may need to replace it soon. Start looking in a junk yard for another one. You will save hundreds of dollars getting one from a bone yard.

That is a sign of needing a second opinion as the rear diffriential, which is what the rear tires are connected to, has no bearing on gear shifting.

2001 chevy blazer, no plug on rear axle to check fluid level.

A Chevy rear end or differential is filled through a plug. There is no provision for draining it, however, other than removing the rear cover. If it requires differential oil and the rear cover had not been removed for service, there is obviously a leak in a seal. At the same time, the fluid does not get contaminated and should not need to be changed under normal circumstances.

Have you replaced the distributor cap & Rotor lately? AC Delco brand is the ONLY brand to use on these engines. Overheating cane be anything from no coolant to a stuck closed thermostat.

What is the rear wheel bearing gear ratio for a 2001 Chevy Blazer 4WD - 2 door?

I think you mean the rear end ratio. there is no gear ratio for the wheel bearing. If you look at the factory sticker on the drivers door, there will be an "axle code". write that down and then look here for the ratio.

2001 chevy blazer not shifting right

Check the oil if you haven't already. If that makes no difference, change the tranny oil and filter. It can make a world of difference. Another thing it could be is your fuel filter. The engine is starving for gas, and can't shift properly.
