SOURCE: Alfa Romeo 147 t-spark motor control system failure car just died in the middle of the road and won't start again.

Hello
The engine and transmission in this cars drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant teperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL THE DIAGNOSIS & TESTING IS COMPLETED.

Alfa 147 2000cc 2004fails to start......just replaced the battery but all I get is a clicking sound when I turn the key

that is a classic faulty starter solenoid description , try hitting the starter motor with a hammer firmly 2-3 times, this lets the stuck bendix spring return as the solenoid has failed to do this, then try to start vehicle worth trying a couple of times , if starts then the starter will need replacing

Everytime you put petrol in the car the engine management light comes on saying motor control system failure and stay on until cleared why and can it be repaired

I would first renew the petrol tank cap, or the gasket on it, if you can obtain one. Then see if the fault is cured. It is very common for a worn cap to cause the engine check light to glow, on any make.
To reset the ECU this procedure is said to work, although I think it is very weird. It would not seem to be damaging though

there is a button that is depressed when the hatch closes, it will be located around the edging, analize it to see if it is broken or if wires have come off the back of it. Good luck

Motor Control System Failure

Motor control system failure means either 2 things
1 A fault with the ecu
2 A fault with the exhaust and lambda sensors
