This starter doesn't use shims. Most likely the starter relay or a bad ground. The grounds on these g.m. vehicles are horrible. Which can cause back feed to other electronics.

You may need to shim that starter due to wear on the engine... ask your parts dealer if he knows about the issue and he will have the part you need.

2010 frontier v6 stater spins but engind doens't turn

Either drive isn't engaging properly (faulty solenoid or wiring) or there is a "bald" patch on the ring gear.

If it will eventually start it's more likely to be a solenoid / wiring issue.

well since the starter was only 2 months old i am betting its an ignition short. When u turn the key, the solenoid on the starter engages the bendix gear with the engines flywheel and then energizes the starter motor. And when u release the ignition the solenoid and the starter motor should de-energize. hope this helps you.

Engine light on during ignition

Any car produce after 1996 can be scan with an OBDII reader.

Check the date code on the battery to rule out old battery.
All battery has a service life of 48 or more month.

Also check the belt tension. When the 2 arrow / dot meet the it is worn.

A worn tensioner will not create enough frication to the alternator pulley.

If the key is stuck in the ignition and cannot be removed, I would assume that the suv is still under warranty at the dealer. I would consult with them first.

Installed a new stater, battery and alt or fine, car makes a clunck sometimes b4 starting

The ignition coil can't do what you describe.

It almost sounds as if you have some broken teeth on the flywheel that the starter engages.

I would remove the starter, loosen or remove the spark plugs to relieve compression, then have someone turn the engine byhand while peering into the bellhousing with a flashlight where the starter mounts and inspect the flywheel for damage.

With a tooth (or more) worn or broken off, when the Bendix throws the starter gear forward, it may be landing on top of a broken tooth, slipping off, then turning your engine over.
There may be enough tooth even if broken, to stay engaged once the starter has meshed.
