Question about Cars & Trucks
This starter doesn't use shims. Most likely the starter relay or a bad ground. The grounds on these g.m. vehicles are horrible. Which can cause back feed to other electronics.

You may need to shim that starter due to wear on the engine... ask your parts dealer if he knows about the issue and he will have the part you need.
