SOURCE: 95 dodge stratus transmission problem

Whoever told you that you need a new transmission was correct!! I had to have mine replaced last September. Unless you have a friend that's a mechanic it's going to cost you at least $2000.00 if not $2500.00. Hopefully you have some mechanic friends. GOOD LUCK

Add some ATF in the dipstick behind the battery, below the master brake cylinder. The dipstick is weird and hard to find. It has a red flip cap instead of a pull ring. I know this is too late to help the poster, but others are looking for this. (Like myself.) Question? kurt1431 at comcast dot net.

SOURCE: 2007 dodge caliber transmission light is on

You'll notice what appears to be a dipstick tube at the front of the vehicle on the drivers side, and it should have a warning label to use CVT oil. But when you remove the top, there's no stick. The dipstick itself is a "special tool" (Miller No. 9336). The stick is marked for fluid levels for different temperatures, although there is an acceptable range.
Read the instructions carefuly that come with the tool
Thank you!

How can i adjust the gear linkeage on my 2000 ford focus it is hard to select reverse gear occasionally.5 speed manual

You may want to grease the fork sliders on the top plate. Check the nylon thickness on the forks for excessive wear. Check for excessive shaft end play between the gears and the case. Make sure the detentes on the fork sliders fully engage. The shift linkage arms have bushings so make sure there isn't excessive wear on the reverse arm .

How to install a pitman arm on a 1984 chevy 4x4 blazer

It's an easy but physically demanding if you do not have a pneumatic set of tools. The specialty tools you will first have to get your hands on are a Tie Rod remover. otherwise know as a (pickle fork). There are two sizes of these large for ball joint removal and small for Tie rod removal. Looks like a big 2 pronged fork. The next Tool is a Pitman arm remover. Usually you can rent or barrow them from your local auto parts store. Drive your blazer up on to a set of repair ramps. Block the rear tires. The bolt to the center link from the pitman arm has a crown nut on it with a cotter pin going threw it. Remove the cotter pin.and remove the crown nut. Then with the Pickle fork and a 5 lb. sledge hammer. place the pickle fork between the center link and the pitman arm bolt. Give the end of the Pickle fork as many good blows on the other end as it takes for the center link to release from the pitman arm. Once that is done take a break I know you'll need it. Next is the Pitman arm to the steering gear shaft. Hope you can get your hands on a good breaker bar or an impact wrench and a socket large enough for the steering gear shaft nut. Remove the nut. Then place the Pitman arm removal tool between the pitman arm and the steering gear housing. Start tightening the threaded rod the remover up against the shaft. It is hard as hell to remove because pitman arms rarely go bad. It's usually the center link that fails. It will take a lot of strength to remove and you may want to use a little penetrating lube on it. Once you get that off you may want to replace the steering gear shaft seal as well. Otherwise just reverse the removal steps. The shaft is notched and so is the pitman are make sure they line up. then Torque to spec.s If you plan on keeping the blazer get a repair manual from your auto parts store. It will help you put a great deal.

Reverse slipping

Sounds like the brake band (for reverse) is slipping (not holding). You'll need someone with test gear and the requisite tools to adjust the band - assuming it's got adjustment left. Otherwise you'll need a box overhaul or a new box!

Automatic gearbox 1990jetta2 car rides when gearlever is place in drive but when placed in reverce car donot want to move.

You need to get a Haynes manual or similar.
There are two cables which run from the shift lever to the transmission to select the PRND21.
If these cables are not adjusted precisely, you will lose a function. After the reverse gear stops working the out of adjustment won't allow the car to go into park. The park position becomes reverse.
The Haynes manual describes step by step how to do it. Cheap book (about $15).
Try other positions like neutral or part way through neutral and park and you may find your gear there. If you do, you are lucky; adjustment only.
If the cable is not the may need a transmission.

Reverse gear spits out

is it manual or automatic. Spits out. Being an 85 golf, There are parts on vehicles that need adjusting over time. There are parts on these adjustable parts that need maintenance and after say 24 years lol, replacing. Shift linkage adjustment and shift bushings are the most common cause of reverse (spitting out). Purchased online for 8.00 U.S. or get the nice neoprene if you plan on keeping the golf. Shift linkage adjustment is easy if you are a professional. If your not, plan to be on your back and making alot of trips back and forth if you don't know what your doing. Don't let some crook talk you into serious money. Adjust your linkage , but first replace the shift bushings. The little things are what tell the big things what to do.
