Question about 1997 Mazda Millenia

My 1997 millennia S stumbles when you accelerate quickly

When you press down on the accelerator and punch it to change lanes or just to accelerate, the car bogs down or fights it and then surges a little, then bogs down again in jerky fashion as it slowly gains speed.
Thanks for any insight on how to cure this.

    Hi atyourdoor,

Well, the car only has 75,000 miles on it. I just recently got it and it seems to idle just fine without missing so I didn't think it was probably a tune up issue. So you think it would help to change the fuel filters and plugs and wires anyway?

I had just one other question: the power steering wheel does not move up or down, fortunatel it is stuck in the up position and I can get my legs under it ok. Could that be a fuse??

It sounds like your fuel filter is clogged or you have dirty injectors. Try replacing the fuel filter($12-$15) and treating the gas with some lucus injector cleaner. The one that says tune-up in a bottle.

Hello. How many miles are on the vehical? Have you ever had, or changed the fuel filter(s)? . The spark plugs and wires? I recommend a quality tune up first to eliminate any small issues. Quinn, Arizona

Yes I always do a tune up no matter what , because you never know what type of love a previous owner gave the car..Let me know the outcome if possible..have a great night.

Stumbles on acceleration

Well, I would replace the air filter, make sure the air hose from the air filter to the intake is not kinked or blocked and check for vacuum leaks. If these are all fine, I would check the fuel pressure as it is possible the pump is weak and not supplying enough fuel.

Low power when accelerating

I thought the filter might be the issue here, on carb cars the engine tends to stall out with a plugged filter.

Missing and stumbling during acceleration

4.2 ltr missing. 2000 truck, f150. Changed plugs, wires. Ran great for 2 weeks. Started again. Changed coils. Got worse. Changed fuel filter, did nothing. Added injector cleaner and fuel cleaner, nothing. Checked EGR, o.k. It is getting worse. Had new gas about the time it all started.

Bad stumble on acceleration pops through t- body.

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator. Could also be that the timing jumped. But I'm leaning towards the pressure regulator. Hope that I could help. Best wishes.
