You need to perform an OBD2 fault code test, you will need a scan tool or a fault code reader. DO NOT GUESS, DO THE TESTING.

Is there a simple way to tell if a crank sensor on a 1996 ford probe gt 24 valve engine is stopping it from starting?

If you have fuel injector pulse, engine cranking, I don't think the crank sensor is your problem. Just my opinion.

In my 1996 ford probe GT the stick shift will move where ever it wants to but my car is stuck in 2nd gear. It wont allow me to change gears but the stick shift can literally move in a full circle. I feel...

Hi I am stuck in 2nd too.But I have a Probe 1989 GT and shifter will not move. I am told I need to tap/hit some rods in the tranny, after I remove about 10 bolts on the side of the tranny, and this would unstick it. Could work for yours too. I did see someone ask "what if the shifter moves? then its more of the shift gates, and is easy to fix. I not see answer to how, tho.

97 Ford Probe GT will not crank

Your absolutely rite that is a safety feature! so the car will not take off in gear if you forget to put clutch down to disengage it so no one will get ran over! maybe your natural safety switch is gone! or the starter motor.

sounds like your immobilizer is giving you trouble i don't think you'd need to reprogram for a distributor if it worked for a week, your only option is bring to dealer to have immobilizer checked out please rate -jeff
