Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My Sole E95 has a clicking noise when it is turned on. It is not from the flywheel or any moving parts but seems to be coming from the control panel. Any thoughts?

Does the noise happen when the car is moving or all of the time? Is everything but the engine turned off (ventilation system)?

I hear a click click click then a pause then click click click again when I go to start my 2008 mercury sable the clicking starts when the accessories are activated right before the motor turns over it...

This noise is indeed coming from the dash and it is caused by a part called the air temperature control blend door actuator motor. The noise is a tiny electric gear drive that moves the door and controls air temperature jumping teeth due to a defective sticking blend door inside the air ducting. To replace these parts requires the dash be removed from the car, a 12-14 hour job.

I just went out to start the car and the starter seems to turn but not engage into the flywheel to turn it over is this then a solinoid problem?

A defective solinoid would make a clicking noise. However, the problem you describe could be a worn flywheel.

I had a similar noise on my 01 9-3 and several mechanics suggested it was a rod knock which would require replacing the engine. Luckily it turned out to be a cracked flywheel. The repair cost me $1100.

1997 Chevy 1500 Starter Problems

The starter should have been mounted with a thin "shim" plate between the starter and the bell housing. (flywheel cover). It moves the starter out away from the flywheel. If your auto parts guy doesn't seem to have one, you can make one out of thin metal the thickness of a matchbook cover. Insure the starters housing is metal to metal with it's mount for good electrical contact.

the clicking noise is from the starter solenoid. It is not receiving enough power to move the starter drive gear to the flywheel. If the battery was charged fully the solenoid will engage the drive gear to the flywheel to start

1996 Chevy 1500 automatic making clicking noise in first gear

yes could be a bad fly wheel. we have had them on our 1996 van and it is exactly as you describe. you do not hear it revving the engine. you will need to get under the truck . remove inspection cover for trans. look very carefully with a flashlight for reflections from the cracks in the flywheel. we tried to pry ours and it did not move. but we saw it with the flashlight both times. 2 flywheels were made one with ovals and one with circles. the oval ones always go bad. do not buy an aoval replacement

Take it back to the salvage yard and they can drive and inspect it. Most likely its a bad trans. If the torque converter is wrong your truck would not move in any gear.

Seat only works sometimes

You could have an issue with the body control module (BCM), GM can test it for proper function of the seats, there is no common problem so a trip to the dealer is good idea on this one.
