I need to find the main and rod factory specs for a GM Crankshaft casting number 6223. Where would I look?

You would have to get the foundry bill of material for that crankshaft
finding the casting foundry will be a job in itself
however crank shafts are cast to a engineering standard (throw distance) and are then ground to a standard size on the big ends and main journals
what ever con rods that are used depends on the block that the crank shaft is installed in as different piston diameters require different strength conrods
the casting number is just a batch number so it may prove a dead end if you are relying on it to get information
where I would start looking is at a engineering shop that regrinds crank shafts as they may have original specs for gm cranks and that number just may indicate what block it was made for and then you may get a heading as to where to look

Where could I find the specs for a GM crankshaft casting number 6223


All BBC # 7114 cranks were crossdrilled & tufftrided from the factory & only installed in original L/88 & ZL/1 427 engines.All GM BBC #6223 cranks that were factory crossdrilled are tufftrided, whether 396 or 427, they came in SPEC HI PERF solid lifter engines only from the factory. I believe the 6223 crank was primarily used for 396 applications and has a 3/4" thick front counterweight. If the crank is a dull gray color and the mains have been cross drilled (a hole from one side of the main to the other), it would have been used in high performance solid lifter applications. Cranks used in 427 engines use a thicker (7/8") front counterweight to balance the heavier pistons and are forging #71XX. On a non cross drilled crank, the #1 and #5 mains will have only one hole, cross drilled versions will have two.

This is all the info I could find at the moment, but I will ask a friend of mine who is a mechanic at the Chevy dealer here and maybe I can help out further. If I find any more info on this, I will post back immediately following. I hope this will help in the meantime.

What is the torque specs. 4.3 2002 Chevy vortex main and rod bearing


I didnot find specs for 2002 4.3 L. engine. I dont know if the specs for the 2004 4.3 L. would help. connecting rod first pass 20 lb ft
and final pass 70 degrees. For the crankshaft bearing cap bolts
first pass 15 lb ft and final pass 73 degrees. in the vehicule identification number , the 8 th number is the engine. the specs is the a vin X.

Torque specs


2002 2.0L Duratech.

Don't have 2004 2.3L

  • NOTE: Use new connecting rod bearing cap bolts.
    NOTE: Do not fully tighten the connecting rod bearing cap bolts at this stage.
    Install the bearing caps.
  • Rotate the crankshaft through 180 degrees and insert pistons 2 and 3.
  • Position the corresponding bearing shells, clean and free of oil, into the connecting rod and the connecting rod bearing cap.
  • Coat the inner side of the bearing shells with engine oil.
  1. NOTE: The crankshaft must rotate freely, if necessary check and adjust the bearing clearances.
    Tighten the main bearing and connecting rod bearing bolts.
    1. Tighten the main bearing bolts in two stages.
      • Stage 1: 25 Nm.
      • Stage 2: 60 degrees.
    1. Tighten the connecting rod bearing bolts in two stages.
      • Stage 1: 35 Nm.
      • Stage 2: 90 degrees.
