turn the key to the on position and leave it for a minute if that dont work you half to prime it if it is fuel injected go to the fuel rail take the little screw cap off and press it with a little screwdriver with the key in the on position if its carborated you half to spray alittle carb cleaner in the carb

Ad more fuel because it may not be getting into the pump if car isnt parked on a flat surface!
Also it may have picked up sludge or dirt in the tank!
You should always keep tank full or it can sweat! resulting in rust developing in the tank!

You could check the fuel filter. If the tank was run dry, some sediment and any water in the bottom of the tank may have clogged the filter. Hope this helps and good luck.

I have a 2003 Pontiac Montana that ran out of gas, I put 2 gallons in it and now it won't start

Turn the key to run and listen to see if the electric fuel pump is running. If it is, allow it to run for 30 seconds before turning the key to start. This will allow the pump to push enough fuel to the fuel rail so the injectors have something to spray.

You may have cooked the fuel pump.
The pump uses liquid gasoline to help keep it cool and lubed. Running the tank low or empty makes the pump run hotter. Someone will need to check the pump for power and ground.

My car ran out of gas, now it will not start

If high miles, it may be a fuel pump. Fuel pumps usually go when gasoline is low and pump gets too warm. This may mimic running out of gas when there is a gallon or two of gas still left to draw but needle reads empty. Have someone put their ear to the gas tank while you turn on the ignition switch. the pump should run for 2-10 seconds with key on and not cranking.

If you don't hear the pump run, then investigate further for a failed pump.

My car ran out of fuel. I filled it with a gallon. Now my car starts but cranks and stops after few seconds. Do I need to bleed air from the fuel lines? How?

No by you running the car completely out of gas and then putting 1 gallon back in tank, you stired up the residue in tank and the fuel filter is plugging up with all the residue. The best thing to do is remove the fuel filter and replace it with a new filter. Hope this will help you.

My chevy uplander 2007 ran out of gas. I have

Since the Uplanders have the long (front to back) skinny gas tank, with the outlet to the rear; if you run out of gas with the front/nose inclined lower than the rear, then it can take upwards of 5 to 8 gallons to get it started again. It was written up in a GM TSB. Two gallons won't start it. When the gage reads less than 1/2, it's not a good idea to park with the front lower than the rear...unless you carry a full 5 gal. refill. Thank you GM engineering.
