The most common bulb is a H7 to replace remove the cover on the rear of the lamp. Twist bulb holder anti-clockwise and remove from socket. Replace bulb, (Do Not Touch Glass) refit in reverse order. And be patient they are delicate.

How do I change a dipped beam headlight bulb on a 06 passat

I've just changed one in my Passat, if your car is fitted with projector lense dipped lights, here's how....
1, switch off all lights and ign.
2, remove rubber waterproof cap from rear of lamp.
3, reach in and pull the bulb and it's connector out, it is held in place by 3 spring prongs, (space is very tight but it can be done with a little patience).
4. remove the old bulb from the connector.
5. making sure not to touch the glass area of the new bulb, fit it to the connector.
6. install the bulb into the rear of the lense with the tab pointing downwards, it may require a little wriggling to get it located,
7. once the bulb is located in the rear of the lense, push gently untill you hear a click, bulb is now locked into position.
8. refit the rubber waterproof cap.
9. test your lights.
10. if working, enjoy a nice mug of coffee. (I did)
Good Luck

My full beams not working all other lights ok

well theres a Couple thing I would try that are relatively inexpensive.
using the process of elimination:

First check in your fuse box to see if there is a fuse blown, sometimes there is a separate fuse for hi beams and lows.
Second, if there's no blown fuse, i would go to an auto parts store and buy one new hi beam (they will be able to look up which bulb you need, if you don't know) and try replacing it to see if by the rare chance both bulbs burned out (not likely).
This eliminates the bulb and the fuse, however VW is known for having little electrical problems that only a specifically trained tech would know what to do with. Here is a link to a Passat specialized Owners forum. they might know more:

Hope that helps : )

All head lights failed. Display reads: left front dipped beam failed, right front dipped beam failed Do the lights normally fail in pairs or could this be some sort of controllers failure?

they could fail in pairs, check bulbs ,remove and install new ones also check fuses after installing new bulbs if they dont work because they sometimes pop the fuse when they blow out , also theres a left and right lamp fuse so check both fuses , but only if lamps dont work after you install them. hope this helps, good luck.

How do I replace my DRL light bulb? My dashboard console displays "Right Front Dipped Beam Defective". Looking at the front, it look like my DRL light bulb is burnt out. I need step by step with pictures...

turn it counterclockwise as you fac it from the rear. It should rotate about 1/4 turn and then pull out. Usually there are 2 tabs about 1/4 inch wide & one a little wider so it goes back in right. Some use a plastic ring to hold the bulb in and that's what you grip and rotate. good luck. let us know progress

Gitting gti lights

The wiring is different, if your Golf had headlights with H4 bulbs then changing to high beam turns dip off. The GTi has separate dip and high lights, on high beam dip stays on (all 4 bulbs on).
