The fuel fillter is in the but you shouldnt have to drop the tank to get to it or the pump. Lift the back seat and you will see a plate held in place with screews take this off. Below this is a steel plate that you will have to spin off may need help fro a hammer as they are tight. Some are badged BWM. This gets you to the fuel pump and the filter

hope it helps

Hi,
Not sure what year your Freelander is, but i have a 2002, and was told by my mechanic that the Freelander does NOT have a fuel filter. It is located in the gas tank, so if replacement is needed, i gather your tank would have to be dropped for repair. My fuel PUMP just went out on me this past Saturday to the tune of about $1k (part and labor)...

Good luck,
Patricia

Were's the fuel filtter on a freelander

If it is the 1.8 petrol the filter is on the bottom of the pump in the fule tank. Under the seat behind the driver, lift the carpet and you will find a round cover with six screws remove the cover. The fuel pump is directly below unscrew the retaining round plate and remove the pump. At the base of the pump is a small filter. clean and replace. job takes about 10 mins good luck. please let me know how you got on!

Fuel filter

The fuel filter is in the tank, you need to take the fuel pump module out to get to it, once its out youy can wash the sock filter on the end of the pump out with petrol and replace the main filter (metal can in top part of module). Filter is available from the dealer.
