Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, check fuel injector pulse. Any applicable trouble codes?
I don't know year--make--model--engine size?

97 ford ranger 4cyl starts and immediately dies. Has some fuel pressure, but haven't put a pressure gauge on it

If it dies immediately when you remove the starting fluid the issue has to be with fuel delivery.

Kick over but won't start

i would start by seeing if you have a fuel pump problem. try using some starting fluid. squirt some into the air intake if it starts but dies out your fuel pump isnt working.

try taking of the air intake and spray carb cleaner into it and then try to start.
if it tries to start and then dies then your having a fuel issue.
that may be the fuel pump.
remove the back seat, put the key in the second position right before turning it over and listen for the fuel pump to start up.
if you dont hear anything then your fuel pump is bad or not getting power.
and then i would check the fuel pump relay switch first before replacing the pump.

hope this helps

My 1998 Delta 88 LS Oldsmobile is not starting. I have replaced the fuel filter and checked the fuel pump relay fuse and also the other fuse that is located in the kick panel, got any suggestions?

First lets start out with finding out if its a fuel problem or electrical as in no spark. You need to pull a plug wire off and if you have a tester put it on the wire if you dont have a tester put a screw driver in the wire and place it close to metal on the engine but not touching and crank over the engine if you see spark then your good there if no spark then thats where your problem is going to be. If there was spark then squirt a shot of starting fluid into the intake or throttle body and turn over the engine if it starts then dies then fuel delivery is going to be where your problem is at.Have some one turn the ignition key to the run position dont try to start it just turn it to the run position while you listen at the gas tank remove the fuel cap and place your ear as close to it as possible and listen for the pump you should hear a humming sound for a few seconds then stop if you dont hear it it could be your fuel pump could be bad check to make sure you have voltage to your fuel pump with a tester before going through changing out the pump. I hope this helps you let me know how this turns out.

Since it started with starting fluid, you have a fuel problem. This could be due to a failed fuel pump. When you turn your key to On, listen for your fuel pump. If you open the gas lid you can hear the fuel pump while someone turns the key to On. It should come on and pressurize the system. Once the fuel pressure has built up the pump cuts off. It is also possible that your fuel filter is clogged, your timing belt has failed, your crankshaft position sensor or camshaft position sensor have failed. If you have a Check Engine Light, get it scanned. This will help determine the problem.

I have a 94 honda civic and its not turning on. All the actual power cuts on but that's all. Is it my fuel pump??

It could be. Check to see if it turns on. Let it rest for a few minutes. Turn your key on but dont try to start it. When you turn the key, you chould hear a humming sound for a second or two. You can also spray gas or starter fluid in your intake. Try to start it right after. If it starts and dies, it is probably your fuel pump. If it kicks on, let me know. We can try some more things. I hope this helps. It sucks to be broke down.

2000 pontiac grand am - not starting. fuel pump does sound like its runing when you first turn the key. If you spray starting fluid into the intake it will start but will not keep running.

If it fires on starting fluid, its not getting fuel. If you have acess to the tools test the fuel pressure. If not start with the filter, its cheap and if the pump sounds like its running this would be the next major cause. If that dont fix it, its probably the pump. Had a sunfire around the same year that would actually run for ten minutes or so before it died. Never checked the fuel pump because the car would run so I assumed it was working, I mean you could hear it kick on. But after changing every thing else the car ended up needing a fuel pump. Hope this helps

Chevy astro van turns over but wont start when

Check to see if the fuel pump is kicking in,
when you turn the key on without starting the van you should hear it kick on for about 2 seconds,

It could be...
A clogged fuel filter...
Blown fuse for the pump..or bad pump relay..
No gas
Bad fuel pump
