Open Question

The belt for the cutter on my Stiga Prestige has slipped off the tensioner. How can I refit.

I was cleaning the underside of the cutter and probably lifter it too high.

sounds like the aduster /tensioner is worn or weak if you dont have a jack or some decent tools you may be better calling out a mobile mechanic

Try using a 1/2 inch socket on your heaviest socket wrench. Put it on the nut on the idler pulley and push the idler back to allow you to slip on the belt.

There should be a belt tensioner which requires a socket and a ratchet to pull tension off the belt by prying on this tensioner in the opposite direction.. Good Luck

Power steering belt snapped.I have a diagram on the belt path around the steering pump etc, just need someone explain what I need to do to ease the tension so I can put on the new power steering belt?

I am not familiar with the set up on the Magna for tensioning the serpentine belt. Normally there is a tensioner pulley fitted to the engine which has to be moved a little by applying opposite pressure with a tube spanner or ring spanner to release tension on the belt so it may be slipped off and then moved back into position again when refitting. That is probably what you have also.

I suggest you check with the guys on the Magna owners Forum in the link below. They will be able to tell you what to do on that Mitsubishi Magna engine. Indicate when asking which engine you have fitted in your car.

Kia sedona instructions to replace serpintene belt

Hi, Here is the procedure for a 2002 KIA Sedona 2.9, Engine code KJ. I I can not guarantee the followingprocedure is exactly the same as your car.

Warnings and recommendations Unless otherwise advised by the manufacturer, the following procedures are recommended: Always fit a new timing belt after removal Check the tensioner and idler pulleys; renew if necessary Never turn the engine in the direction opposite to that of normal operation Check the belt(s) for cracks, fraying, wear and oil contamination Note: The engine must be cold before timing belt adjustment Note: Avoid bending, torsion or traction General Before disconnecting the battery cable, check the audio system security code kj_t_dba_uk_6.jpg

Timing belt set-up for a 2000 Seat Inca 1.9 SDi

1. Align the crankshaft timing marks on the flywheel / gearbox

2. Remove the valve cover
3. Lock the camshaft

4. Fit the injection pump locking pin


5. Loosen the camshaft gearwheel bolt, 180 degrees. Use a wrench to counter-hold
6. Loosen the camshaft gearwheel while holding it in place


7. Fit the timing belt in the sequence as shown in the below figure: a - b - c - d - e - f - g


8. Fit the timing belt and camshaft gearwheel together
9. Turn the tensioner clockwise to align both marks


10. Tighten the large bolt on the tensioner to a torque of 20 Nm
11. Check for correct fit
12. Lock the camshaft. Tighten the camshaft gearwheel bolts: 45 Nm. Use a wrench to counter-hold
13. Remove helping tools
14. Turn the engine two rotations by hand
15. Repeat the procedure if required
16. Fit the vacuum pump
17. Refit the crankshaft pulley. Tighten torque: 20 Nm + 20 degrees
18. Fit the timing belt cover
19. Refit the valve cover
20. Fit the ancillary drive belt
21. Refit the inlet air manifold hoses
22. Check the injection timing

Torque settings:
Camshaft gearwheel: 45 Nm
Tensioner pulley: 20 Nm
Crankshaft pulley: 20 Nm + 20 degrees

How to install serpentine belt 1988 ford 150

Loosen the lock bolt on the upper part of the tensioner(arrowed in black). Release tension on the belt at the tensioner(arrowed in red) by turning counter clockwise on the pulley nut as indicated in blue.
Slip the belt off the pulleys while keeping pressure on the tensioner. Refit the new belt and make sure it is properly located on all the pulleys before releasing pressure on the tensioner. Tighten the lock bolt.
The tensioner is self adjusting you just need to make sure the belt is properly seated on all the pulleys before tightening the lock bolt.
The exact position of the tensioner varies on the different engines but the routing is the same and it is always between the alternator and power steering pulleys on the gas engines.
C - Cranshaft
A - AIR pump
Alt - alternator
W - Water pump
P - Power steering
A/C - airconditioning

Remove the upper fan shroud and aircleaner assemblies for easy access.
To release tension on the belt turn the tensioner pulley nut clockwise and slip the belt off the alternator pulley. To refit the belt route as shown over every pulley except the alternator, once again release the tensioner and fit the belt to the alternator. See that the belt is properly seated over every pulley before restarting the engine.

Trying to put on serpentine belt on a jeep lardeo

Well there is a diagram of how to put it back on, should either be on the underside of the hood, or by the radiator. first you should put the belt on every pulley except the tensioner pulley. then get the wrench that fits on to the tensioner pulley bolt. push/pull which ever release the tension and slip the belt on that pulley. the just slowly let the tension back on to the pulley. you may need one other person but usual it can be done alone. Help on changing fan belt on a vaneo

To be honest, it's best done on ramps in a garage.
However, here we go.

The fan belt is located by removing the underside panel, below the drivers seat area.

Once this is out (8 or so screws) you'll see the alternator and a series of pulleys.

There is a tensioner which is loosened with a socket (mercedes describe a special tool - it's not) and the belt can be removed with the pressure released.

Refitting involves a bit of jiggery pokery to thread it around and then re-apply the tension.

Usual fan belt rules apply - check over tension, check it's true, run it in for a bit.

What do I need to do in order to change out the serpentine belt

There should be a decal somewhere in the engine compartment or on the underside of the hood showing the routing for the belt. Tension is kept on the belt by a pulley called a tensioner. You will have to get the belt routed and then position the tensioner (usually using a breaker bar) so the belt can slip on. Then release the tensioner.

slacken the alternator pivot mounting bolt and the adjusting arm bolt then move the alternator towards the engine . slip the drivebelt off the alternator pulley.refitting is the revers sequence of removal, but before titgtening the muonting and adjusting arm bolt, tension the drivebelt.
