No,the tone ring for your speedo sensor should be fixed and not move with your fingers.That is your problem.The tail houseing on your t-case will have to be removed and then you can find what broke.

only one speed sensor it is in the back side top of the tranny has a 10mm bolt holding it in about $44

If one speed sensor goes out, it will make your speedo stop working. I believe the sensors are about 200 a piece. You'll have to take it to the dealership to find out which one is malfunctioning as there are 5 of them total (I'm pretty sure). They only charged me 30 to put it in as it is really easy and that way it is warrantied by them.
One other problem I had was with the electric brake controller on my truck went haywire and when I disconnected it, my speedo came back to life.

neoprene gear in transmission were the speedometer cable goes into transmission should not have a dished appearance if you pulll it out of transmission look at it from the side it should appear flat from the start of the gear to end of gear no dish down in center
