My 2001 olds aurora 3.5 has a secondary air injection code, how do i determine whitch componant is at fault?

I replaced my secondary air check valve on my 2001 chevy tahoe but code 1416 still comes up. what else can i check

- Secondary Air Injection check valve bank 2

When is the code detected?

The P1416 code is set when no O2 sensor voltage change is detected by the Engine Control Module (ECM).


Possible symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)


P1416 Chevrolet Description
An Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump is used on this vehicle to lower tail pipe emissions on start-up. The PCM supplies a ground to the AIR pump relay, which energizes the AIR pump. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the HO2S voltages to diagnose the AIR system. During the AIR test the PCM activates the AIR pump during closed loop operation. When the AIR is activated, the PCM monitors the HO2S voltages and short term fuel trim values for both banks of the engine. If the AIR system is operating properly, the HO2S voltages should go low and the short term fuel trim should go high.

When accelerate my 2001 aurora it starts... like putt putting like its about to run out of gas and turn off but it doesnt .. it will drive fine for a while and when I go to jump on the highway it starts...


My aurora did the same thing, and I did replace the secondary air injection unit, mine has the 4.0 v-8 and the location of the one I changed is near firewall in the middle above the valve cover/coil over unit. see if the vacuum line popped off or melted that's what mine did, and exhaust was escaping did cause veh to perform poorly, and couldn't get but about 65 mph tops on the interstate. changed the rear one and problem solved. however it could be caused by a plugged catalytic converter which could cause the air injection to go bad. I took my catalytic converter off and cleaned/knocked it out. but depending on your local codes if your county requires the emission testing you would need to replace the catalytic converter. Luckily my county does not.

I have a 2001 Olds Aurora. It has a dtc 410 for the secondary air injection system. What should I be looking for. Have replaced the solinoid but the code returned


a scan can hide other things like vacuum leaks etc--inspect engine for any unusuals--did u clear code-try disconn the batt for a min

Car is choking out and dying. Reads P 0411 code. How do I know if its the motor or just the solenoid valve? How can I check to narrow down what actually is causing the problem? It's on a 2000 VW jetta VR6

Po410 secondary air injection system malfunction also po442 evamporatiave emission control system leak detected (small leak) 2001 Olds Aurora 135,000 miles runs great though


Two of the more common problems with Auroras.
P0442 - There is a small solenoid (about $30.00) mounted near the L.R. wheel that will fix this.
P0410 - Usually due to leaking Air Injection Valves. These are about 2" square, one near the passenger side firewall, the other near the drivers side radiator. They cost about $200.00/ea. most people just leave it go as it does not effect performance.

Secondary air injection system malfunction with the check engine light on. The 2001 olds has 89,000 miles and is in good running condition...no other problems with the car known. Had a tune-up less than...


Basically the secondary Air Injection Reactor system (AIR) forces frech air into the exhaust system to reduce HC and CO emissions. Thats why your failing its not doing its job.I'm not sure if you have a electric or belt driven pump ,or do you have the Pulse air system that uses natural pulses from the exhaust topull air into the exhaust system.
Let me know which system you have and I'll give you the testing procedure. This is a fairly easy fix.
