The strut is that bit connected to the lower control arm with a ball joint and goes up into the inner guard to a rubber mount and is held in by 3 bolts
it normally has the suspension spring around it
so yes
it can be replaced
cheapest is a complete unit from the wreckers / junk yard
it that is not what you have then you need to correctly name what you have

Sorry, I meant the strut tower that the strut goes into the top has rusted out. Do u think that can be fixed?

  • Bill Boyd Apr 30, 2017

it can be fixed professionally but as it an integral part of the body construction serious consideration should be given to junking it and upgrading because the cost to do it will be high

Front shocks/struts not attached at top mount, rusted away needs to be replaced, how to replace upper strut mounts 2001 sebring convertible

you will need to get spring compressors to do the job and if they rusted away chances are the strut shaft nut is rusted too and will need heat from a torch or a powerful air tool to remove it . but if you want to try it first you jack the car and remove the wheel.then unbolt the two large bolts that hold it to the knukle at the bottom, brake hose might be attached to it also remove it .then unbolt the four bolts at the top that hold it and remove the strut. now you will need a strut compressor to squeeze the spring so that the mount is free of pressure from the spring, replace it with the new one careful to install the spring into the seat just like it was.reverse install

I have a 2001 chrysler voyager that is making a noise

I have the same problem. Have a late 2000 Voyager. A company recently replaced the shocks and reassembled the struts. I now found out that they did not assemble them correctly. The noise is from the strut central nut working loose. It is a serious problem in my case. I would get one of your struts removed and checked ASAP.

Struts in a dodge caravan

You can purchase the strut tower parts in a kit from Chrysler. Two new heavy duty steel caps that slip on. it uses a special epoxy, and steel rivets. Kit in Canada costs around 75.00. I have fixed several of these, and they seem to hold up better than new. George

Noisy front end after repairs

Sounds like the McPherson strut rubbing on the bodywork. Take it back for repair. If the strut was worn, it would have been clunky before hand.
