SOURCE: ignition module location

IT SHOULD BE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FENDER, THE MODULE SHOULD BE A SILVER OR GRAY BOX WITH A COUPLE OF PLUGS ON IT, THE BOLTS THAT HOLD IT TO THE FENDER WILL NEED TO BE ACCESSED FROM INSIDE THE WHEEL WELL. THIS STYLE IGNITION CONTROL MODULE IS FAMOUS FOR GETTING HOT AND JUST TURNING OFF LEAVING YOU STRANDED, IN MOST CASES THE VEHICLE WILL RESTART AFTER THE MODULE HAS TIME TO COOL OFF.

1987 f 150 6 cyl starts and runs till hot then wont till cooled off

Probably a bad ignition coil or a bad TFI module (the ignition control module). Much testing could be done to find the faulty part, but I believe if you take the TFI module to a parts store, it could be tested.

Pickup runs fine when cold 5 minutes later spits and sputters and dies wait a minute starts up runs good for 30 seconds. then dies again

A common problem with Ford products built in the 1980s is the ignition module mounted on the distributor.
You will need to figure out if it is a fuel problem or ignition problem to proceed.

I have a1987 f-150 acts like its vapor locked changed fuel filter, plugs, wires, distributer cap,ran fine sat for 8 months now wont run right

Sounds like the distributor stator/pickup is defective, this sends an erratic signal to the Ignition control module (called the TFI module) coil and that causes the timing to go wacko. The Ignition control module and the stator are mounted on and inside the distributor change them both, the distributor must come out to replace the stator. here was a recall on may of these trucks, contact a Ford dealer. Another problem is that the ignition switch comes apart, this also was recalled on many models. Below is a diagram of the distributor for your reference.11_30_2011_5_37_47_pm.jpg

I cant get my truck to start because of the anti-theft lock.

Do you have any engine codes?
Does your fuel pump turn on and do you get sufficient fuel pressure?
Do you get spark? Power to plugs, ignition module, coil packs?

Check all fuses and relays?
