Does anything work at all on battery? Lights, horn, wipers, radio, power seats, power windows? If nothing works, look for a a "fusible link" that's designed to blow open, to save the wiring harness from catching on fire!

What would make a car sound like the battery is dead when trying to start (new battery)

Look at the negative battery cable and the engine to body bonding strap. These can melt just like the positive cable. The starter can be pulling too much current causing the whole problem.

95 toyota camry wont start wont crank turn of the key and nothing

the (knock sensor) crank position just behind the harmonic balancer, (lowest pulley on the motor) on the block, usually on the left side.
i would check the coil first though. sounds to me like a no spark issue.

do you have smart lock? picture of a red hand in instrument panel? im sure they do. If so ****** in park hold key to start position & hit dash upwards & inwards on the left hand side of the steering colum if the problem is the smart lock module it will start. Common prob with fords & that is the cheap fix it will work every time you have the problem

My 95 dodge dakota wont start unless I hold the shifting lever up into park. it is an automatic transmision and if I try to start it without holding up on the shifting lever it is just dead

Adjust the slack out of the transmission shift selector cable, (where it goes onto the side of the transmission). This will hold the lever in the up position as it should be, and there should be no further problems.

Son's 2001 jeep grand cherokee V8, he just bought it with 110000 miles, and now it clicks but won't start. It has battery power, all lights work and did start once. I assume we need a new starter and...

Just because the lights work does not ensure that the battery is good. To be sure that the battery is good it should be load tested. Most auto parts stores will do this for free, it could save you the trouble and expense of replacing the starter.

Also thouroughly inspect the cables/connectors, make sure they aren't corroded or damage.

This is the starter replacement procedure.

  1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Starter mounting bolts
    • Starter solenoid harness connections
    • Starter
    To install:
  2. Connect the starter solenoid wiring connectors.
  3. Install the starter and tighten the bolts to the following specifications:
    • 2.5L engine: 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm)
    • 4.0L engine: Upper bolt to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) and lower bolt to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm)
    • 4.7L engine: 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm)
    • 5.2L and 5.9L engines: 50 ft. lbs. (68 Nm)
  4. Install the negative battery cable and check for proper operation.

My 1995 Chevy Tahoe brake light switch wont stay in position and the brake lights stay on. I replaced the switch and had the same problem.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disable the SIR system (if equipped).
  3. Remove the clip (R/V Series) or unclip the switch (C/K Series) and unplug the electrical connector from the brake light switch.
  4. Remove the switch.
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal.

My 95 318is (m42 engine) wont crank, the check engine light does not come on when you turn the key to the on position (right before you go to crank it). It wont even make the starter click or anything. I...

-This problem reminds me of situation I ran into many, many moons ago. I had some new sound system components that I was in the process of adding. Since I was experimenting with a few different configurations over the period of a few days/weeks, I had not permanently connected the wiring. One day(actually somehow it happebed overnight), the car wouldn't start. I couldn't be push started either. Thinking that it was something more severe, I had it towed to the shop. When I got the car back, the mechanic had disconnected the amp system power cable from the positive side battery terminal.

-As it turned out, one of the small power leads from one of the crossover boxes had come loose and was resting against ground. ...Son-of-a-B#$#%!!!

My 95 Ford Escort wont start, changed ignition module, ignition coil pack, crankshaft position sensor...if I change the computer will it have to be reprogrammed ? Trying to figure this out ran beautiful as...

I would listen for the fuel pump(take the gas cap off and listen for the buzz when someone turns the key on), if no buzz or whine then have them crank the engine. If still no noise then take a hammer and hit the middle of the gas tank while the car is being started(make sure E-brake is applied)If it starts it's your fuel pump.

Saab 95 1998 - wont start

The most common problem is the Direct ignition cassette, followed by the crankshaft position sensor. I am assuming that it cranks, but won't start.
