Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

I have a vermeer Trencher that stopped running. It has a back hoe on the front. I had been trenching for about an hour then it just shut down. I had just added fuel ten min earlier so thought fuel.

So I changed fuel filter. Gave it a shot of starting fluid. Still will not start. I would like to over ride all the kill switches to rule that out then I am down to timing belt. ????

First, have you verified that it is the fuel filter? If so, please tell me how you came to this conclusion. I only ask this, because if you are certain you problem is within the fuel delivery system, your fuel filter could be a contributing cause, not the root cause. You may have a bad fuel pump, which is located inside the fuel tank. Whether it be the fuel filter or fuel pump, these types of problems are consistent and are not impacted by temperature. You can find a good video on how to replace your fuel filter on www.wonderhowto.com, go to auto category, and search under "forgotten filters".

No fuel pump reset switch on a Jimmy. If your pressure goes up to normal, then drops back down after 2 seconds, you need a new fuel pump as the return is not working correctly to keep fuel in the lines.

I know you said new fuel pump and filter but I would recheck the fuel pressure. Drive the vehicle with the fuel pressure gauge on it and see if the pressure drops after 10 minutes.

There could be many issues. These codes read your engine is running too lean. Check : all your vacuum hoses for leaks, PCV valve and hose, MAF sensor. This may require an experienced technician to figure this out. Hopefully I help'd!!

Did you by any chance get gas before this happened? If you overfill your gas tank sometimes it affects the engine but when the gas goes down some in the tank everything normallizes

Runs great but sometimes after a hour starts missing and shuts off.

Not positive but sounds like coil pack. There is a liquid coolant in em and if it gets a crack in it then it over heats easy. So after it gets hot it stops working. Then it cools back down and works right. Just basing this on other cars I have worked on. Some have two wires per coil. When it starts running bad pull one of the wires off and seee if it runs the same or worse. And if it is the coil you should be able to trace down the one that is bad. Just trying to help.

How do you "manually" bleed the air bags in a 96 Lincoln Cont. ?

Shut off pump switch located in drivers side panel door in trunk. Jack up car at frame and support with jack stands. This will make sure the car does not come down on you when you release the air.
Pop retaining off of solenoid valve located at top of airbag and turn valve to first stop till air starts releasing
