I got it out by tilting then pulling on the battery. This snapped it off the plastic clamp. The bolt was not stripped, I thought it was too, The nut for the bolt which in set in the molded plastic tray was spinning. Someone over torqued the bolt on the last battery change. Me!!!! I removed entire tray, applied heat to the nut melting the nut back in place. Thanks for the input!

Its stripped out, you will have to replace it, i suggest going to a local parts store and buying a tap and die set, ask them if they have anything to remove it

Hold down clamps will not remove to replace battery, 2002 malibu

First off , the battery cover should be removed and the "hold down" clamp is at the base of the battery and it would be shaped as a large triangle with a bolt through it.
Be sure and remove the negative battery terminal first and then the positive. Installation is the opposite , positive first and then the negative.
The bolt should be loosened enough so that the "hold down" clamp comes right out.
Your saying you can't get the "hold down" clamp removed. Do you mean the bolt will not turn or it turns but not enough to remove the clamp? More information would help.

Replace battery

The battery hold-down is a plastic block at the base of the battery. If you look on the side of the battery opposite where the cables connect, you will see a really long bolt sticking up with an 8mm hex head. (SEE PICTURE BELOW) That is your hold-down bolt. It is designed so that when you unscrew the bolt from the battery tray, you simply lift up on the bolt and it will pull the plastic block up with it.

When reinstalling the battery, make sure you slide the battery base under the lip in the battery tray opposite where the hold-dow goes, then install the hold-down.

Follow these steps.
1. Uncover Wiper motor and you'll see a bolt holding down collision deflector rod that mounts to grill.
2. remove that blot. usually a metric #13 socket.
3. Remove two bolts holding bar to grill. Usually metric #10 bolt
4. Slide out rod foward from fuse tray. Don't pull up or down on it. You can break Fuse tray clamps.
5. Disconect Ground
6. Disconect Hot or +.
7. Down on back of battery is a Hold Down Clamp with a metric #13 bolt. Unscrew it.
8. Lift out battery as you push Fuse tray out of your way. Good Luck.

How do I remove the battery from a 2006 Dodge Durango?

One side of that battery will have a single 13 mm bolt that you can loosen and or remove entirely to allow you to remove that battery. Screws located down near the bottom of the battery.
The fender is on the left and then the battery and then the wedge is on the battery side which faces the engine. You need to remove it with a socket and long extension.

Remove the negative battery and place it out of the way then remove the positive cable and move it as well.Remove the heat guard or shield which surrounds the battery if installed.Remove the battery hold down wedge by unscrewing the bolt.Lift out the battery.Reverse for installation.--------------- Thank you.

How do I get the battery out of the 2002 cadillac deville?

I used to change batteries out of GM cars for Sears Roebuck & Co.

Most Cadillacs are similar.

First, disconnect the negative (-) black terminal and set aside so it won't touch the negative terminal of the battery. Then, disconnect the red positive (+) terminal.

The battery is held down by a 1/2" hex or 13 mm hex bolt that has a plastic hold down. Unscrew this in the counterclockwise direction.

If there is a cross bar or plate over the battery, then remove the bolts that hold it on in order to remove the battery more easily.

Always wear eye protection and optionally wear gloves to protect against acid that may have leaked out onto the battery or the battery tray.

How to remove battery from 1999 cadillace sedan deville

Disconnect negative terminal (black) first. Then disconnect positive terminal (red).

Then, use a 1/2" hex socket and extension and ratchet to unscrew the hold down bolt that holds the black plastic hold down piece on the bottom of the battery.

Remove any cross members that block the lifting of the battery out of the battery tray, by unscrewing any bolts that are located on the plate.

Positive battery cable

Excellent. I love saving people money. So I'll do it again.

You can replace just the end if there is enough slack in the cable. They are available in any auto parts store. There are a few different types. You'll want one that holds the cable with a strap held down by two bolts.

You need to strip the cable insulation (about 1/2-3/4"), put it under the strap and bolt it down until it's snug (not too tight, it's soft metal and can strip easy). Then attach the terminal to the battery, tighten it and you're done.

If you need advice on anything else, just click the ASK button near my name. Then it will be routed directly to me. It was sheer luck that it was me that found your second request. or was it?

BTW, thanks for the rating. I'm glad it worked out so well for you.
