SOURCE: Transfer Case gear oil change

If you use the vehicle for towing or drive in very cold conditions you should do it every 30K miles. Ordinarily you should change it every 60K miles. If I recall this is what Toyota recommends. I personally would recommend doing it every 30k. The Belray is good so I would stick with it .

If you can, put an OBDII scan tool on it and look for codes in the P0730 range (incorrect gear ratio). Any P07XX code is a transaxle code. Alternatively, check that your shift lever is adjusted properly. Sometimes it may seem correct but since there are switches there it is possible that they are not making content in D.

The other possibilities are low line pressure (check/change the transaxle oil), low oil level (do not overfill, it may damage your newly-installed transaxle or cause fluid to be ejected out of the fill tube), valve body problems or sensors. Got a MIL lit? That's a sure bet there's something the computer wants to tell you about.

I need to put gear oil in my 1996 volvo 850

There's no dipstick for the transmission for those model year. There is a check/fill plug on the left hand side of the transaxle casing. You need the remove the plug and the oil level should be up to the lower edge of the hole.
Source : Haynes manual
Note : The plug is quite big, 19mm socket or so, located close the the steering rack, a little more than halfway up the casing. If I remember correctly, it uses the same gasket as the oil pan plug. Make sure everything is clean all around before removing. There should be another one at the lowest spot for drainage. Make sure you get the right oil (see owners manual). Fill using a seringe or squirting throught a plastic tube.

Oil pressure high, oil level low

Oil pressure and oil level are two different creatures.

your oil gauge determines oil pressure while the oil can (red light on dash) indicates oil levels.

There are usually two different sensors but can gauge the same types of things. E.G. - If your oil is so low that your pressure gauge is affected this can cause engine failure. Thus--a good rule of thumb is to check your oil once a week as the oil pressure gauge and red oil can may not always work as intended.

I hope this helps!

Humming noise gearbox on suzuki swift when running fisrt and second gear

incorrect oil levels are the main cause for this, it usually starts with low gear to high gear as the level don't reach the gears properly or the other thing to look at is mounting engine and gearbox as when tuque is high then mounts are under a lot of stress, then there's the exhaust system could be near something Re: Jeff

4th gear disengagement:

The 4th gear is engaged automatically after the transmission has shifted through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears

at certain speeds and loads. By pressing in the button at the rear of the selector level, the 4th gear can be

disengaged, thus providing a three-speed transmission. As a reminder the

? light on the dashboard

glows. By pressing in the button again, the transmission reverts to four-speed operation and the

?
light shuts off.
This is straight out of the owner's handbook. What this indicates is that there may be a problem with the shift solenoid. On the highway, does is seem to rev high? Can you press the button on the shifter and have the light go out? let me know.

Oil light with a line underneathe it, what does the light indicate?

Low oil, bad sensor, really low idle.
First check oil level.
then if oil level is ok, and oil light is still there, pay attention to idle has to be 750 to 850 RPM.

If idle ok, give gas to increase idle to more than 2000 rpm if light goes away you need a sensor called OIL PRESSURE SWITCH.

Mercedes c class with tiptonic gearbox. It seems to have got stuck in a low gear when I slowed down for a roundabout. When I accelerated to 50/60 mph, the rev counter was way too high and no auto gear...

It seems oil level is low in your gearbox, and it most likely leaking from adapter bushing ( where cable is connected to gearbox).
You need to replace seals or complete bushing and correct oil level.
Better if you visit your mechanic.

Auto transmission slips in 1st and 2nnd gears gearbox jumps into gear upon gearing down 1994 excel

Check the fluid level first, either too low a level or too high a level can cause erratic shifting and also if the oil smells as if its burnt there could be internal damage to clutches and brake bands. The fluid would be the first thing to chech anyway with the car driven and warmed up first and then check the oil level in neutral while car is idling.
