SOURCE: where is the temp sending unit on a 1981 dodge ram

both of them, the guage and fuel injection sensors are near the thermistat housing. its easier to take the ac compressor loose [just 4 bolts, leave hoses connected] move it aside and the sensors are easy to get at then.

Oil pressure gauge at 0...oil light on...but has oil..????

Make sure the engine is not making any knocking noises when running. If so, shut off immediately as you will internally damage the engine. The knocking sound is cause by no oil pressure which could be the oil pump or sending unit depending on the year, make and model.

Location of oil sending unit on 1990 ranger 2.9

Here's a link to your oil pressure switch, here's the part.As you can see there are 2 types, one for light and one for gauge.
  • When the oil pressure is either high or low it will either turn the oil light "on" in the dash or move the gauge to the extremes
  • Undetected high or low oil pressure can result in internal engine damage and/or gasket leakage

The oil pressure lite came on oil is full slow revs cause drop in pressure

The first thing to determine is whether the oil pressure sending unit is bad or the engine actually has low oil pressure. To determine that you can remove the sending unit and adapt a mechanical oil pressure gauge in the hole. You should have a minimum of 20 lbs. pressure at idle and 40 lbs. above 1,000 rpm on a warm engine. If the pressure readings are good, replace the sending unit; if not, you have an internal engine problem.

Can a oil sending unit possiblely be the cause for an oil leak

Yes it certainly can. Because oil has to pass into the sending unit under pressure in order to work. If the sending unit develops an internal leak it can leak a large amount of oil in a relatively short period of time.

Oil pressure went down to zero when turned on and stays there,,,

More then likely it is the sending unit or gauge as conventional oils leave deposits that sludge up the inside of your engine block , especially when the oil is not changed in a timely manor. These deposits can clog up various internal passages , like your oil pressure sending unit. Oil pressure sending units are usually inexpensive and easy to replace. Hope this helped Tim

Hello, I have a 2007 GMC Yukon with around 47K miles. All service has been done at a GMC dealer on schedule and a oil change was done about 1500 miles ago. My question is that this week the oil low/check...

Probably just the oil sending unit internally defective.Just have them install a pressure tester and make sure the pressure is good.I`m sure this will be the sending unit.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Kpa guage

It sounds like you have a faulty oil pressure sending unit or you have a bad oil pump. First thing is to check your oil level to make sure you have the proper oil in the engine, then the next thing to do is replace the oil pressure sending unit. You can pick one up at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instruction to replacing the oil sending unit with common tools. The last thing is a bad oil pump which would indicate a possible internal engine damage due to lack of oil circulation, unfortunately that is going to be a too big of a job for most back yard mechanic and it's going to have to go in to a shop to have the oil pump replaced. Good luck and hope this helps.

Fluctuation on the oil pressure gauge reading

The oil pressure sending unit is a sensor with an internal diaphragm, if the internal diaphragm is damaged , or the line to the diaphragm is blocked you can get this kind of fluctuation on the oil pressure gauge.

The oil pressure value must be read by installing a mechanical gauge near to the oil pressure switch and checking the pressure.

If pressure is ok, replace the sending unit. If there is a real pressure drop, check the oil pump.

If you still get fluctualtion after replacing the oil pressure sending unit, replace the oil pressure gauge.
