I have a 1992 mazda 929 that will not roll over I checked the starter and its goodthe battery is fine all lights and radio work any ideas,?

does it make any noise at all? if not get a hammer and hit the starter a couple of times ( not little taps) and try it again, if it starts then your starter is not good. I am curious as to how you tested it.

Download manual transmission diagram for 1992 mazda protege

Yes, you have to take the starter off. The starter bolts keep that side of transaxle to engine block- take the starter off. Have you disconnected the negative battery cable from the battery? You must do that before taking off the starter electrical connections.
Since you are taking out the transaxle to engine bolts, then you should have the transaxle ready to pull back and drop. Has everything been removed from the transaxle, so it is free?

Where is the starter located?

The starter is located on the rear of the engine. Follow the positive power cable from the battery down to the starter. It is easier to access the starter from under the vehicle.
