How do you replace the starter?
There were two engines used in that year truck, a 2.4 liter and a V-6.
The 2.4 has one bolt at the bottom going from the back to the front. Either a 14 ir 17 mm wrench size, can't recall. The other bolt comes out from the top, but from the front to back.
Make sure you disconnect the ground first from the battery and then the positive from the back of the starter solenoid. 12 mm. Careful, counter clockwise, do not force it! There is also a smaller wire with a green connector which you must also disconnect.
The V-6, same scenario: Disconnect the ground from the battery. Disconnect the positive cable from the starter along with the smaller wire. The green connector on many of then, you just pinch at the back and gently pull. The bolts are from the back side. The top one is a pain, but a long extension and a universal will get it done. Use a 12 inch breaker bar so you do not bust your knuckles! I am doing this from memory as I haven't done either in over 10 years.
