Flywheel is around $80 depending on the model of the vehicle and your location in the country. Gotta pull the transmission to get to the flywheel. This requires emptying out all the fluid, dropping it out from underneath the car (more than likely), and performing the necessary repairs. It takes awhile to do the job if doing it in the driveway with little experience. Their should be plenty of videos on YouTube to get you going in the right direction with the overall process and the necessary tools.

Not horribly difficult, but you will have to either pull the engine, or pull the transmission to be able to change the flywheel. My vote goes for pulling the engine because when pulling the transmission, everything you do ahs to be done under the car. Also, exhaust systems frequently are in the way when dropping a transmission. But by using an engine hoist, most of the work can be done above the car, with the exception of the bell housing bolts.

When I try to start my 97 sonoma, It sounds normal, except for a short grinding sound but it won't completely start. Is this a starter.

It is difficult to diagnose 'sounds' .. but from what you say it does sound as though it is starter motor related.

Possibly, the starter motor retaining bolts are loose which allows the starter motor to 'move' as it meshes with the teeth on the flywheel. Or, it's the starter motor failing to disengage..

Get somebody to have a look for you. If any damage is caused to the teeth on the flywheel .. well ... it's an expensive repair. The engine has to be removed..

I have a 1991 chevy K1500 and we replaced the fly wheel and now it wont go into gear.. HELP!

the most common fault is what you have stated
clutch plate in back to front
the clutch plate hub hits on the flywheel bolt heads and the plate is still driven making 1st and reverse gears difficult to select without crunching them

1997 Chevy Suburban 1500 flywheel broken

I just had to have one done after the first one was installed BACKWARDS by an idiot. To replace starter and flywheel cost me $890. IF you just need the flywheel you are looking at between $450-$600 unless you do it yourself.

Motor swap

The flywheel is balanced different. Use the 79 flywheel. The exhaust is all going to have to be changed. The trans., bellhousing will work.

The motor is hrd does not move smooth when I start it. and i feel it hard to move.

I suggest that you check the teeth on the flywheel and the starter bendix (drive clutch with gear on it to turn the flywheel). It is difficult to diagnose this without actually seeing the vehicle. It could be that you could get by with changing the starter. Another thing to look at is the flywheel and bolts. It is possible that it is cracked. If that be the case, either the transmission will have to be pulled or the engine.
Hopefully it won't come to that. The longer you try to use it laike that, the worse and more expensive it is going to be to repair it.
Good Luck with it.

Flywheel

if your car is automatic and flywheel breaks then car won't go no where it will not move any more and you will hear a big knoking noise
and the cost will be between 5 to 9 hrs labor for 65 to 100 per hr plus parts depending whats the labor rate for your auto repair
