Question about 1987 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

2 Answers

1987 S10 2.5L 4 cyl.

I purchased this truck non-running from a friend, it ran a week ago so nice that I bought it for a s10 frame swap on my '53 gmc but want to have it running b4 i rip it apart. Last week it quit running on him & he found the wires going to the carb were melted so he replaced them with no luck, so he tried replacing the computer with no luck. once in a while it will start & shut down right away then you try to start it after that & nothing it just turns over. I tried putting some gas down the throttle body & it won't kick off. Is it getting intermittent spark as an electrical problem or what? I figure if I put gas in the carb its getting fuel right? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Check the spark either with an inductive timing light, or with an old spark plug in a wire you disconnect and lay on the engine.
It is probably the coil or ignition modules, which most parts places will check for free, if you bring it in.

Puring fuel down the throttle body won't do know good that thing takes 30 60 psi so it can run. I actually has a fuel injector in there. its not a regular carburator. So you need to test the fuel pressure with a gauge. I usually disconnect the fuel feed line at the carb that way i can verify that the fuel filter isn't clogged as well..
you got to check for four main things:

spark .
compression.
fuel .
time.

with those four the engine should run anyone of those not there then your stuck.

89 camaro starts wont crank when it does wont idle and dies after 3000 rpm when you hold accelerator

Could be a problem with the pickup coil in the bottom of the distributor if equipped. The pickup coil provides the crank signal for the injectors and ignition module.
Did you clear the code and then 53 came back ?
On most models code 53 means the computer or one of the components is getting over 13 volts.

Running rough-1987 Ford Ranger 2.3 L 4 cyl. Had been running very smoothly until 2 weeks ago when it began backfiring and running rough, especially at low speeds, without my having made any adjustmen

If your car has a mas air flow sensor (usualy located right aroung air filter or in air passage after the air filter) check and clean the sensor. This looks like a small spring on the end of 2 wires. BE CAREFUL not to damage the sensor. I have seen where the sensor gets dirty over time and this can cause a rough idle.

I am replacing the starter on my 350 chevy motor, in a 1984 cj7. I took the starter out, purchased new, and can not get the bolt holes to line up

on Chevy small blocks there only two bolt patterns one with off set holes and one with straight across bolt holes
i ran across this same problem a while ago starter that was suppose to fit my motor according to part stores was the offset bolt pattern but motor actually had straight across bolt pattern i had to go back to i think like a 1969 motor to get straight across bolt pattern even but i know motor wasn't that old

if you have the correct bolt pattern make sure the starter not hitting on something (frame, headers, tranny lines etc.) if clearance is the issue you might need to go with a smaller starter (they work just as well but the starter motor it self is smaller in diameter) the smaller starter might not have as much power as the bigger one but shouldn't be a problem as long as your not running a extremely high compression motor

(the following is untested by my self but good friend that drag races says it true)
My friend Drag race car uses a starter off a 4.3L Chevy vortex motor( 6 cyl motor found in blazers, S10 etc) And it turns over his High compression drag race small block and gives him the clearance he needs.

My husband said his 2000 Chevy S10 would sputter and stall continuously. Just happened yesterday. Took it to Pep Boys. They diagnosed it as a bad fuel injector. He has a 4 cyclinder manual transmission....

I had the same problem with my 1992 S10 Pick Up. Found the problem to be with the fuel pump. Replaced the fuel pump and it ran like a charm.
The fuel pump is located in the gas tank.

The inline fuel pump fuse on the passenger side firewall is good? Are you jumping it with 12 volts at the test lead or the fuse?
