Alternator drive belt

it is a pretty straight forward job, just get a 3/8 in drive to put into the tensioner to releasde the belt from the idler wheel, you should see a delt diagram on the fan shroud. You can get the tension drive wrench from harbor frieght for about 20.00 ..make sure when you reinstall that its lined up in the grooves well, by bumping the key a few times and having a second pair of eyes watching the belt as you turn the engine over...

How do you remove the crankshaft pulley? I have not been able to figure out a way to keep it from rotating so that I can break the bolt loose.

Your best and most likely best thing to do is go to your local auto parts or hardware store and depending on your location if you have a Harbor Frieght store near you is to get and electric impact/ at harbor frieght you can get one for about 50 dollars. Don't forget to get the correct size 1/2 drive socket. You will need something like that as well to make sure it's put on there good when you put it back together anyway. There are other ways but this is the quickest and best way to go on and get the job done. Gave you a picture of one below for the one from Garbor Frieght that goes for 50. I hope this helps and good luck.

How do i replace the battery on a 2003 Passat

Be sure to use an auxillary input voltage device (memory savor) so you do not lose ECM TCM and radio programming. Most cars have a seperate battery for this, but VW does not. It plugs into the cigarette light and supplies a small amout of power to vital systems. I picked one up at harbor frieght for $5.
Also, make sure the car is OFF. Disconnect the negative cable before the posative, and install after the posative cable.
Always match the AMP ratings or go higher, because of cable resistance building up over time and wear to the starter. Replacing the cables and starter would fix this issue, but add much cost.
Good Luck.

Turn the key and nothing. battery is fine. poss starter??

Maybe. You really need to try and jump start the car. If you cant start it then its possible the starter. Before you do anything that costs big money. Check all the connections. I mean put a wrench on the starter lead and make sure its tight. clean the battery treminals. make sure they are tight. Get a multimeter from harbor frieght (5 bucks) check the battery 12 volts not runnung13/14 volts running. good luck

My Saturn wont start. The battery has a charge, but power locks and interior lights don't work. My car ran fine I pulled into a parking lot went into store 30 minutes later came out to start my car and...

Its the power somewhere along the chain. So of course first is too check the battery. get a multimeter from harbor frieght.(5 bucks) Set it to D.C. voltage and place the red lead on the positive terminal, black on negative. It should read 12 volts if less, then you have a bad battery. Next jump start the car and repeat with car running, it should read 13 /14 volts. If not altenator is bad. If both are good ,clean battery terminals, nice shinny metal. hook up everthing nice and tight. Now start the car. Good luck

Headlights don't work, fuses are good

It's probably either a relay or bad electrical ground. You'll have to get a wiring diagram and a multimeter (like $5 for a harbor frieght cheapy) to track down the problem.
