I can't believe I didn't put the year in. My apologies Mr. Layton. That's strange though, I had them gapped at. 060 then my check engine came on I through on the scanner and it came up missing on #4 cylinder so I saw what I believed was an online copy of my underwood sticker(of which mine are non existent) and it said. 035 so I changed them to that and the check engine light went off and has stayed off about 2 days now. When before it was either blinking constantly or on solid. Any thoughts on that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
By the way it's a 1997. Thanks again I appreciate it.

I have tune-up manuals from 1980--2016. They don't have every single year--make--model, but, they have a lot. I looked up 7.4L engine, not c3500. From 1980 through 86, carb engine, .045 plug gap. from 87 through 95, 7.4 L, tbi, plug gap .035. My manuals skip 96 and 97 for whatever reason, starts up again in 98. I think the plug gap differs depending on the fuel system, carb--tbi--sfi, I guess there could be other reasons? Sometimes, different plug manufacturers have different plug gaps. It is interesting.
Use your best judgement. When the check engine lite came on, what was the trouble code?
If .035 works best for you, who am I to tell you different.

I changed spark plugs on my 01 jeep grand cherokee it was running but turned off on me now it wont start anymore.

which engine?
2001 WJ , jeep.
wrong spark plugs!
gapped wrong!
wrong wire order?
do tell engine you have there.
do tell park plug brand and numbers.
do tell if engine has coil packs, how many, and how you wired them back..
now answering for USA cars, (not exports. or those jeeps made in Europe. )

the 4.0L engine with the 3 coil rack pack? with 6 spark wire sets?
the 4.7liter has 6 coil packs coil over plug COPS.
that can not be wired wrong but could be unplugged in primary side.

my guess, wrong parts, wrong gap
or not reconnected right.
if spark is lost, scan the PCM cranking, look for DTCs/

How to do a spark plug change on a 2003 Jeep Liberty

how to move hands, ?
what tools
im i to guess this is your first spark plug pull even on a lawn-mower?

what engine do you have, 90% posts lack what engine it is on a engine question, and we are still guessing, and nuttn happens.
lets see.you pull HV wires 1 by 1, and replace them using a spark plug socket wrench.
if the engine has COP coils, those come off, first, (do tell got cops)>?

do not mix up the spark wires or it will not run.
why not watch youtube of 10000 doing this on all engines. to get a fell of the ways and means.... simple huh?
only start a spark plug by hand , never use a wrench.
rule1. end.
do not over tighten them (rule 2)

2.4L engine, 4 cylinder??????
this is my guess.
JEEP KJ
ill look that up for you.
ok i looked, the 2.4L uses coil pack
so rule 1 applies, DO NOT MIX the HV wires on the COIL PACK>
remove the spark plug wire from ONE spark plug]
remove the spark plug (turns counter clock wise)
put in new plug (right part number and gap it to spec.
torque it to spec, and put back the wire.
move to next plug wire and repeat.
success.

HV means those high voltage spark wires, that make you glow like a June bug if you get HIT. the 50,000 volt wires.

RE14MCC5 (Champion #) plugs
48 thou gap
but the hood sticker wins this ... not me.... read it.

the 3.7 has 6 cop coils , no signal coil pack.
my 3.8L has coil packs.
so as you can see , each engine is unique, by year and car.

Loss of power, studdering at high rpms when at temp.

Sound's like it break down due to no oil or water circulate
the engine. Or wrong spark plug gap. So it increase too much heat.

-Try this:
1. Flush the engine. Flush the coolant.
2. Check spark plug gap (Adjust to correct gap)
3. Check oil pressure. If it's low then new oil pump is need.

Good Luck

Settings for points for 454 engine86 chev c30 scotsdale one ton truck

You have a 1986 454 engine with an old style breaker point ignition distributor, GM has not used a breaker point ignition for their V-8 engines since 1974, is that an older distributor or something after-market?

The ignition points dwell angle for that engine should be set at 29-31 degrees dwell (a dwell meter would be the most accurate way to set the ignition points), or a .019 in. point gap.

The spark plug gap for that engine would be .035 in. and the timing should be set at 10 degrees before top dead center.

Engine wont start in 92 gmc sierra 454 block

well spraying a little starting fluid into the air intake and trying to start it will tell you if it is fuel related or and elctrical problem, i guess that would be the first step, and narrow things down a bit, if it starts with the fluid it is a fuel issue, if not its elctrical.
check you spark plugs, if your fuel pressure regulator was bad and it was flooding the engine, it would have fouled your plugs, i guess id start with those two things and at least start narrowing things down.

Good Luck, come on back if you get stuck....

I need a diagram for a spark plug wires on a 99'

start with the serpentine belt side of the car (passenger) the first plug hole will be #1 then 2-4 as you work your way to the drivers side as Im guessing this is a 4 cylinder. The coil pack on the top of the engine has all the plug wires coming out of it and should be numbered 1-4 go accordingly from there.
