Does it have play in north/south , or west/east direction? Get the bearings and tie rods checked depending on if play is up/down or right/left .... After fixing, get another alignment done if it is bad or if tie rods are replaced.

What is causeing loose play in my steeringwheel when i turn it left or right?

If there is no shaking or clunking you can probably rule out tie rods or ball joints, have your steering box checked for a worn or damaged worm gear, this can be adjusted

MY 1997 VW JETTA GLS SWERVES TO THE RIGHT WHILE CHANGING GEARS WHAT CAUSES IT TO DO THAT?

My guess is that you have a stuck caliper on your front right brake. It is very easy to tell... The best way is to jack up the car and see if you can rotate the wheel. If you don't have the oomph for that, drive the car for a few miles and then pull into a parking lot. Go put your hand on the hub of the left wheel to see how hot it is. Go to the right side and do the same. If it's hot, you have a stuck caliper.

The reason I think this is the case is that when the car is accelerating, the engine is overpowering the brakes. However, when you stick in the clutch, there is no power to the wheels, and the stuck brake is pulling you to the right.

You should not drive away from your house for 2 miles... go out a mile and back. That way, if it's hot, you are home safe.

If it is a stuck caliper, you should not drive it for many reasons... you are wrecking your brake pads and rotors on that wheel... you are possibly boiling your brake fluid and could have a mushy brake pedal with reduced effectiveness, and plow into someone in front of you... you could wreck your tire... you could start a fire.

If it is not that, have someone run beside your car to see if your wheel looks like it is going to fall off. Not likely, but something to check.

1993pontiac grand am front wheels wobble while driving

Jack up the front wheels and rotate them by hand. Look for any runout that may be cause by a bent wheel. Also feel the tread as you rotate the tire. It should be smooth and concentric. If there are any bulges in the tread the tire is seperated. Grab the wheel at the top and bottom and push/pull. You should feel no play. If you do you woman have a bad wheel bearing. In order to check ball joints and tie rods you will need to have the tire off the ground and the jack under the subframe or pinch weld. This will not work if the jack is under the control arm. Grab the tire at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions and push pull. If you feel any play you either hav E worn ball joints or worn tie rod ends. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

I just got the truck and it has a few problems that I need to fix sp here that are When I drive down the road it pulls to the left tires are ok front end alinment ok also no wipers

SOME THINGS i WOULD CHECK...
1st. check tire inflation. make sure they all are the same. under inflated tire can cause a pull.
2nd. jack up front end, placing hands on the tires in the 3oclock and 9 oclock positions see if you can wiggle the tire in and out. If there is any play, you will feel it right away. This is classic tie rod end wear and is the cause of your pull. if you replace it yourself, you will need an alignment after.
good luck

Pulling hard to the right, and front end wobbles violently when sppeeds over 40mph are reached

Has it been snowing where you live? If it has then you could of gathered some ice on the axle of the car and it needs to be melted. Park the car somewhere warm for a while.

If you havent had snow then you might have a bad wheel bearing. Jack each front tire up and see if there is any play (not spinning) in the wheel. If there is play with the wheel then you need new wheel bearings.

Shop for a rebuilt transmission, or get an estimate from AAMCO for a rebuild job, but it won't be cheap. Get at least 3 estimates before you decide how to proceed. Good luck.

Front end shaking on 2004 jetta

Probably the tires. I had the same problem the front end was shaking badly, I had tire with usable tread on them but they were cheap korean tires, I swapped for michelins and the shake went away completely. If the tires are new, have them rebalanced, my wife's car tires were out of balance in only 5,000 miles.

Too rule out mechanical, while on the jack stand, grab the tire on the sides and try to move the wheels side to side. Do the same by grabbin the top and bottom of the tire to see if there is any movement. the movement should be Minimal. If there is a lot of movement, it could be the ball joints or the tie rods. My shake was so bad that this is what I thought was wrong with mine. Glad I changed the tires first.
