The battery warning light is blinking on and off on my 2001 Corolla. Should I replace the battry or could it be the alternator?

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Although the battery sign indicates that you have a faulty alternator, it is wise to have your battery checked first. When tested and the battery sits on BAD then the battery will surely need replacement. If the battery is good then go for the alternator replacement.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Battery light is on after replacing battery

Have you had the charging system checked??? the battery light only indicates there is a problem in the system not necessarily the battery you probably need a new alt.. the battery light works off of voltage ...dont know where you are but most auto parts store will check this for free(Napa, autozone, baxters etc)

New alternator didn't charge battery. (2VDC

As the car re-started, the battery is not flat.
The voltages measured indicate a problem with either the power or ground connection in the circuit between the alternator and the battery.

You likely have a intermittent / poor ground connection somewhere in the power system.
Check battery terminals are clean and firmly attached.
Check battery cable and alternator ground connections are intact and in good order.

No power whatsoever to 2002 PT Cruiser, no lights, remote door lock doesn't work, nothing when I turn the ignition key. Just parked it yesterday and it worked fine. Had the battery replaced about a month...

Start by checking the battery even if it's new. If the alternator is not charging it, it will go dead even if it's new. If a recharge gets it started, then get the alternator checked. Once running a simple check of the Alt. is to put a voltmeter across the battery terminals and see if you have 14v which usually indicates it's OK. If the Alt. is OK look for a battery drain. Something staying on all the time even when the engine is off.

Battery being drained on 2000 Expedition

you should remove your alternator and take it into an auto parts store and they can test it for you.
this alt had an internal regulator which can be replaced easy.
your auto parts store will be able to full feld your alt to bypass the regulator. this is how you test it to see if the regulator is bad.

you didnt say how many miles are on this truck .
most of these ford alt will last 120,000 or more
on the back side of the alt you will see the replaceable regulator.

Battery and alternator

If your alt is putting out 12V you have a faulty alternator. A healthy alternator puts out 14v not 12v. The battery light doesn't indicate a bad battery, rather it indicates voltage is below 14v or 13v, depending on the vehicle.

With the vehicle running use a voltmeter at the alt and test for output voltage, if it's any where close to 12v you have a faulty alt and will need to be replaced.

You could also have a corroded/faulty/loose battery cable/s going from the alt to the starter/battery/alt.
