Also Electronic Spark control Module. I have found many times when you run down the road and it gets a little hot it will shut down. When you let it sit for a little bit and it cools down it will restart and run like nothing was ever wrong until it heats up again.

Sounds like the coils are getting hot and breaking down. or the module is getting bad. take the intire coil pac to the parts store they should be able to test it .

2002 explorer wont start

You have the symptoms of a defective starter solenoid, the large contacts inside the starter solenoid get eroded over time and finally start to not make connection, that is the click and the no start, in most cases you can get it started by repeated attempts, but in the end it will strand you. The starter solenoid can be rebuilt for about $10 and an hour of your time to remove the starter from the truck.

ENGINE CRACKS NO BUT WILL NOT START - SOMETIMES LET IT SIT FOR A FEW DAYS & WILL START & THEN LATER WILL NOT

The fuel pump may be failing. Check the fuel pressure the next time it wont start, if thats good have the control module and coil pack tested.

I have a 96 explorer and i need to know the difference in engines

No difference, same engine, it's either called an electronic fuel injection (EFI), or a multi fuel injection, usually MPFI ( multi port fuel injection).

My 96 ford explorer wont start

Check that the small wire going onto the starter solenoid has a good contact. Next time it doesn't start, test this wire for power while the key is on Start. If it has power when you test it then, I'd suspect dodgy starter solenoid.

Wont start

CHECK SHRADER VALVE ON FUEL RAIL FOR PRESSURE. IT IS COMMON FOR PUMP'S TO GO OUT. YOU CAN HAVE SOMEONE LISTEN TO TANK FOR A BUZZ NOISE ON KEY CYCLES OR TEST FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR HARNESS FOR POWER. TRY KEEPING AT LEAST QUARTER TANK AT ALL TIMES TO KEEP FUEL PUMP COOL,SOME PEOPLE DRIVE ON LOW AQLL TIMES AND KEEPS PUMP HOT CAUSING PREMATURE FAILURE.
