MOST LIKLEY YOUR ALTERNATOR IS GOING BAD. YOU CAN REMOVE IT AND HAVE IT TESTED AT MOST PART STORES. ALSO SOME OF THOSE PART STORES HAVE THE ABILITY TO TEST THE ALTERNATOR IN THE CAR IF THE BATTERY IS REASONABLY CHARGED AND CAN START THE CAR.

Batterie and brake light stays on changed new batterie new alternator car ran fine the next day the car would not crank

There is obviously have a drain on the battery. You have a faulty break light pedal switch causing the lights to stay on, or your turn signal switch is bad. your brake lights run through, the turn signal switch too. That could also cause the problem.

Something is draining my battery on my 1998 Cadillac DeVille

I suspect parasitic draw. All vehicles draw some power from the batteries when the car is shut off. Certain accessories such as clocks, radios remote door openers and alarms always need power. The normal power used is called parasitic draw.

It is always a very low draw so it doesn't run the battery down. If you install accessories like shortwave radios or plug things like inverters and portable refrigerators into the accessory socket and operate them too long without the engine running you can drain your batteries to the point where the engine won't start. If there is an electrical short in the vehicle or a malfunctioning accessory it could be drawing much more than its normal load causing a drain on the batteries. If you leave your door open and the inside lights stay on all night you could drain the battery down till the car won't start.

Here's also a good resource for your car specifically on narrowing down the cause of the drain.

What caused my battery to drain while car was off?

The major cause of this is the overhead lights left on.

Battery dains when not running

The battery current draw may be caused by a few things, here are some to check: the most common is that a light stays on like the dome light, the brake l;ights may be staying on,aftermarket accessories can cause it as well, audio amplifiers or stereo equipment or aftermarket alarm systems, very common.

240z battery drain

Have you confirmed by going out to the car at night that none of the interior lights or lighted visor lights truck or hood lights are staying on? That is by far the most common cause of a battery drain. Other less common cause is a defective alternator rectifier diode Disconnect the battery overnight as well to confirm you don't have a shorted battery cell, that to will run the battery down, it is called an internal drain. Also make sure the top of the battery is clean of any acid.

You have what is called a "parasitic drain" that is draining the battery on your car while is not running. Something is staying on after you turn the key off, it could be any number of things, from a stuck relay to a trunk light staying on that slowly drains the battery. A parasitic drain test will need to performed to determine the cause so repairs can be made....Here is a link that explains how to do this test....Make sure your battery is fully charged before starting this test. Also, after you disconnect the battery cable, wait 15-20 minutes before starting the test...this allows any capacitors to drain and not give a false reading...
Good luck, i hope this helps.

Battery goes dead overnight

This could indicate a weak battery or a drain caused by some electrical circuit turned on. Some parts stores will run a free battery check for you. You don't mention your location or the age of the battery, (Cold weather may cause problem to be more obvious.) Make sure all your lights are off - a trunk light or glove box light could stay on because of a stuck switch. Make sure nothing is plugged into the lighter that would cause a drain.
