SOURCE: 350 Chevy starter wiring diagram needed

IF YOU HAVE A POINTS TYPE DISTRIBUTER, THE WIRING WILL BE: TO ENERGIZE THE STARTER SOLENOID A LARGE, ABOUT A NUMBER 12 OR 14 GAUGE WIRE WILL GO TO THE INNER MOST SMALL TERMINAL ON THE STARTER SOLENOID. IT MAY BE PURPLE IN COLOR. THE SECOND SMALLER WIRE SHOULD GO TO THE OUTER SOLENOID TERMINAL AND GO FROM THERE TO THE + TERMINAL ON THE IGNITION COIL. THIS IS FOR BY PASSING THE RESISTOR WIRE FROM THE STARTER IGNITION SWITCH. THE LARGER BATTERY CABLE WILL GO TO THE UPPER TERMINAL ON THE STARTER SOLENOID. THERE MAY BE AN ADDITIONAL BATTERY FEED WIRE TAKE OFF FROM THE STARTER BATTERY TERMINAL POST ON THE SOLENOID FOR OTHER ACCESSORIES. THIS TYPE OF SYSTEM (POINTS TYPE) WAS TYPICALLY DONE AWAY WITH IN 1975 WHEN THE HEI DISTRIBUTOR CAME OUT.

SOURCE: 2002 ford explorer wont start even after new battery...

Before you go changing out the starter check for a burnt out fusible link going to the starter it will look like a wire but acts as a fuse and they burn in two just like a fuse. The symptoms you just describe are those of a burnt fusible link.

SOURCE: need wiring diagram for 1996 GMC Sonoma, I lost

On the 96 GMC sonoma my fuses are located on a small panel on the drivers side of the dash, it's hidden by the door when it's closed, you'll see a round knob. Under my hood is ONLY the master cylinder and cruise control unit. NO fuses are under my hood either. The relays are behind a panel in the glove compartment.

I'm not getting power to the starter on my 1999 dodge ram

Have to do some testing to find out why

I would assume you need a repair shop

If your going to work on your own vehicles,
you need reference material, in the form of factory
service manuals & in your case, wiring diagrams

If you do not have wiring diagrams & a volt meter
& basic electricity knowledge ,your not going to
even find a problem

Have a cub cadet gt 2554 and it wont turn over. 23hp kohler

Make sure there are no loose wires to battery or starter.
Check and make sure your battery has over 10.5 volts. This voltage is a shorted battery and if you tried to pump it won't start. The other problem is an open battery which will have a 0.50 Volts but will start with a jump but it will not retain a charge.
Now let's check your starter and try to jump it with a screwdriver.
The reason for this is you might have a bad switch or bad solenoid or bad starter. I hope this was helpful and let me know how you make out.

Will not turn over! Starter won't engage!!

When you turn the key to on, do the dash and warning lights come on? This would verify power to the ignition switch.

It's like this: you have a positive battery cable with a lot of juice connected to the starter, but not to the starter motor. It is only connected to the starter motor when the start wire out of the ignition switch energizes the starter solenoid, mounted on top of the starter.

So you check the small wire to the starter for power with the key held in start. If it has power then, the starter or the solenoid is probably bad- as long as the battery is charged and the battery connections and starter connection is good.
If you have no power on the small wire in start, trace the start wire back to the ignition switch. You may need a wiring diagram- there is often a start relay, a park/neutral safety switch with automatics or a clutch safety switch with a manual transm., and sometimes a "crank" fuse. All or some may be in the path of the start wire from ignition switch to the starter solenoid. You would need a voltmeter or test light to check this circuit. If you want more help, post back with make, model, year, and engine, and I could look at a wiring diagram for your start circuit, or I could post a link for you to see the diagram.
