Has the recall (or TSB) been done on the crank pulley issue? If your belts are noisy then that is the likely cause.

My 1991 ford aerostar is knocking a d sounds like a diesel. Any ideas on what's wrong with it?


If it is an engine knock it could be connecting rod bearings or crankshaft bearings. It could also be something from one of the pulleys the belt runs. Remove the belt/s to see if the noise goes away. If not, expect internal engine problems

Wat is the period for changing timing belt in ikon 1.8 D diesel engine


Good Morning

I just happened to be reading about these last week. Ford suggests that the belt be checked every 60,000 miles by a ford certified tech. They will look for wear and tell you when it needs to be changed.

CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE AND CHECK FOR DAMAGE WIRES GOING TO ALTERNATOR.NOW IF BATTERY CABLES ARE OLD THE POSITIVE CABLE MOSTLY CAUSE HIGH RESISTANCE IN CHARGING CIRCUIT CAUSING NO CHARGE CONDITIONS.MAKE DRIVE BELT IS NOT SLIPPING KEEPING ALTERNATOR FROM CHARGING.

I have a 1991 ford f350 and i was told it has a 7.3L in it, is this true and how many gallons does the tank hold?


The 7.3 is the only diesel engine available for that year and model, so if it's a diesel, yes, it's the 7.3. Gas engine availability was the 4.9 (in 2 wd only), 5.8, and 7.5-all these are gas engines.************************* I believe you have dual tanks? They should hold 17 to 18 gallons each.

Ford R2 diesel timing belt installation


i am curious... what year is this van... and what diesel engine does it have. i am a professional diesel mechanic that specializes on ford engines and i never herd of an R2 engine. it has got to be a 6.2l, 7.3l or 6.0l engine... at any rate none of these engines have a timing belt... unless you have some kind of import model that i am not familiar with. if that is the case them i will try to find out all the info i can.

  1. Generator Pulley (1)
  2. Water Pump Pulley (2)
  3. Idler Pulley (3)
  4. Power Steering Pump Pulley (4)
  5. Radiator Fan Pulley (5)
  6. Crankshaft Pulley (6)
  7. Automatic Tensioner (7)
  8. A/C Compressor Pump Pulley (8)
CAUTION: When installing the accessory drive belt, the belt must be routed correctly. If not, engine may overheat due to water pump rotating in wrong direction. Refer to or for correct engine belt routing. The correct belt with correct length must be used.
1. Position drive belt over all pulleys except water pump pulley. 2. Attach a 1/2 inch ratchet to tensioner.

3. Rotate ratchet and belt tensioner clockwise. Place belt over water pump pulley. Let tensioner rotate back into place. Remove ratchet. Be sure belt is properly seated on all pulleys.
