1996 ford 351 it runs rough and rotten egg smell converters were good fuel regulator good pressure good 02 sensor changed the the oem computer changed and it dies as soon as you put it in reverse

The sulfuric odor may be too much fuel, a rich condition caused by too much fuel pressure, bad regulator or no vacuum to the regulator . Bad O2 sensor , linked return line , stuck open injector pintles etc. .

check O2 Sensors, add a product called Ametech restore at next oil change, this does wonders for your vehicle, improved my BHP & MPG threefold , also as you say it smells bad (Like rotten eggs?) this will be the catalytic converter, either replace or add a product called cataclean to the fuel & take it for a run, It literally cleans all the **** fro the catalytic converter removing that rotten egg smell

I replace my 2001 ford focus fuel pump and fuel filterand now when it starts it idles rough. it will be normal for a second and bolg out. never runs for more then a minute. when i rev the motor it dies...


Was it running fine before you replaced the fuel pump and filter? I am assuming that you were having problems, because a lot of people would not replace the pump unless it wasn't working properly so just clarify that.

If this is a new problem that just came up, it could be a problem with the installation of said equipment (wrong part, not installed correctly, etc). I would check to see what your fuel pressure is at on the fuel rail (should be 40-60 psi, I don't have the spec for the Focus).

If this is just a problem that has been ongoing and you thought the fuel pump was getting week, it could be an indication that your fuel pressure regulator is getting bad or a problem not related to fuel pressure. More troubleshooting would be required.

It sounds like the Catalatic Converter needs to be replaced and possibly the 02 sensors as well.Take your truck to an Automotive Parts Store and get them to scan the on board computer. They provide this service for FREE. The codes or Diagnostic Trouble Codes they get from the on board computers memory will dirrect you to the problem area. Fumes is coming out of the exhuust. strong smell, what to do.


If it is a strong smell of gas it could be your fuel pressure regulator going bad. If you have not changed the air filter lately it could be as simple as the engine not getting the correct amount of air mixture with the fuel. It could also be your converter clogging up and that is not good because that usually is the most expensive part.

Your catalytic converter is plugged up,  If you check the exhaust output at the tailpipe you will find it restricted.

2001 GMC Jimmy Idling rough

P0300 is multiple misfires.
P0171 is lean burn on left bank 1 means drivers side
02 sensor is faulty. Your vehicle is over fuelling that is why your are getting P0300 code and the rotten egg smell. Good idea is to replace both 02 sensors.

FAIL EMISSION TEST BAD


If it smells like rotten eggs, or coal gas, the catylitic converter needs replacing.If engine light comes on after the change 10 to 1 the 02 sensor went bad.

Loss of power/bad smell


One of the things that it could be is that the catalytic converter has rotted away internally. The rust and particle will then clog your muffler causing loss of power. I ran into this at about 140,000 miles on mine. That could be the source of your problem
