Question about 1993 Toyota Corolla

Runs cool after a few minutes runs extremely hot. recently changed water pump,radiator and an was not coming on so changed fan switch ow it ces and still overheats ven with heater on. what could be the problem

Check your thermostat if it's sticking, replace if so.

My 2005 Cadillac escalade is running hot change thermostat and flushed out radiator still running hot when released cap it was a lot of pressure coming from coolant


the 3 easiest things/ tests to do would be these,

1 remove cap from cooling system and run until at operating temp, check for bubbles in cooling system, if bubbles then there is a head gasket failure ( exhaust gases in the system )

2 check cooling fans to see if working, most have a high and low, for under a light or heavy load.

3 could have a water pump that has a failed impeller and not circulating coolant

fans are designed to run on after you shut engine down as engine temperature rise after switching off . running hot could be caused by the top hose having gone soft when you rev the engine the water pump sucks the hose flat stopping the coolant flow or the radiator is blocked and need flushing out

Engine over heats


Check for collapsed radiator hose first.

Do the cooling fans come on? If not, check fuse, relay and if still no function- fan thermostat switch.

If fans do come on, replace water pump.

The fan running is normal. you need to find where the coolant is leaking. If there are no visable leaks. then suspect the radiator/reservoir cap.

Engine runs hot after a few minutes of running the car


That is very vague. Have you checked the radiator, and when it is hot does the electric cooling fan come on? Try running the A/C and see if the cooling fan comes on. Does it run hot on the highway or just in city traffic? I need some more details to try and narrow it down. There are many things it could be. Low coolant, stuck thermostat, air in the cooling system, bad fan motor, fan motor relay (also known as fan switch), or temp sensor.

My VW Cabrio is overheating after 1-2 miles. Coolant in recovery tank is boiling by this time and making bubbling noises. Someone changed radiator hoses, flange, some housing. They are saying that radiator...



Run the engine and look at the header tank , is there lots of air bubbles coming back out of the water if is then the head gasket may have split and that is down to either a can of Radweld or a strip down repair

If the radiator is not uniformly hot them I would go for that as your problem

Normal operation is that the engine starts the thermostat is closed , engine block heats up and opens water starts to circulate around the block

So to check that you need to fill the radiator with cold water run it for a few minutes check the bottom hose it should be cold

The stat opens and the bottom hose should get hot as the water from the block is pumped into the radiator for cooling.

The radiator should get hot all over and the cooling fan should kick in when the sensor hits the over limit stop.

If that does not happen then get someone to remove the stat altogether (It is only there to get the engine block warm quickly in cold regions )

In which case the bottom hose should go from cold to warm to hot

Can you bleed the water cooling system on 1999 mercury cougar


This is extremely important on some cars, for instance my BMW. 1. Have the car parked in a slight uphill slope. Make sure there is enough coolant in the expansion jar.
2. Start the engine and wait for the thermostat to open (upper radiator hose becomes warm).
3. Open up the radiator bleeding nipples slightly with a large screwdriver (bleeding nipples normally made of plastic with a '+* for a screwdriver to fit, at the highest points in the cooling circuit).
4. Allow air bubbles to fizzle out until you get a steady stream of coolant leaking out, use rags to capture leaking coolant.
5. Then close the bleeding nipples, switch off the engine and wait a few minutes for pressure to come down.
6. Open up the cap on the expansion vessel carefully and fill just below the "hot" marking.
7. Check levels again after a few miles and refill further if needed.

Done.
