Question about Subaru Legacy

I would like to know where the subaru neutral safety switch is located in a 95 legacy wagon. Also, how would I lubricate it?

To be more specific - this is an automatic trans. When it sits for awhile we can't get it out of Park and the starter will not engage. In the past, the mechanic freed up/lubricated the neutral switch. Is there a cable arrangement between the shifter and neutral switch? If so, where would it be? I would like to see if I can locate it and free it up enough to get it moving as all wheels are locked up now in Park position. Thanks

Different locations depending if it is automatic or manual transmission.
However - the location is irrelevant in the automatic if you are looking to lubricate it - as it is electronic - not mechanical.

The manual transmission switch is located by the clutch pedal.

Lubricate with a dry graphite spray.

That is not a neutral safety switch acting up - it is the shift interlock.

Your brake pedal has a switch that must be pressed in order for a safety on the shifter to unlock and get the car out of park.

The "Neutral Safety switch" does not let the vehicle start in any gears except Park and Neutral.

The shift interlock solenoid is inside the shifter console.

Remove the outer console and press the brake - you should hear it unlock.

If it does not - check the microswitch on the brake pedal to be sure it is working properly - before swapping out the solenoid.

What does a park/neutral switch look like in a subaru?

The neutral safety switch is mounted on the transmision behind the shift arm. If it fails, the whole switch must be changed. A schematic can be obtained by buying a repair manual at any parts store. Although I don't know why you need it. The switch eather works or it doesn't.

Need diagram for 1995 subaru legacy automatic transmission. 176K , Reverse went out about 10 months ago but all other gears shift fine. Have driven from San Francisco to Lake Tahoe 4/5 times with no...

It's a bad solenoid. Reverse and low gears work off the same set of clutches. If you have first gears , then its a solenoid problem. I would first start by pulling plugs, transmission, TCM and everything in between. Check for corrosion, Use an ohm meter and check the wires for continuity. On some models the safety neutral switch/ range selector switch has a lot to do with how the transmission shifts. If the tcm can't read the switch it wont send power to the solenoid. so far I haven't found a place that will sell just solenoids. You have to buy the whole package. These start at about $200.00

95 Subaru legacy wagon manual transmission fluid

The dipstick has a black plastic handle in the shape of ring of about 1 inch in diameter. It is located on the left side of the engine (looking from front) behind the spark plugs. Best visible from the passenger side fender location (start looking from the left part of the transmission , the black handle clearly stands out on the white metal).

'95 subaru legacy -where is my trans mission fluid dipstick?

is located in the passanger side of the engine. almost right above the universal joint that powers the tires/ it's on the BELL HOUSING if you open the hood and look close you will see a 2 inch curved handle/ it's verry small to see but if you take your time you will see it. the dipstic itself its about 4 inches long . you have to use a funnel and pour the fluid inthe dipstick hole.
