when i see the dash lights go out i think of the headlight switch and the dimmer that they usually have. Pull off the headlight switch and look for overheating, melted insulators on the wires.
There is a cable that runs from the back of the transmission to back of dash.Undo cable at trans end.Spin the inner wire with cordless drill, speedo should move,if not replace speedo cable. Some cables u can pull inside wire from trans end,so don't have to mess with dash
you will have to remove the dash panel around the cluster to get the cluster out. should be held in place with a couple of philips screws and some 7mm or 1/4in bolts remove these and the panel should pop loose will have to disconnect the switchs mounted in the panel. the speedo cluster is next and is bolted in place. you will probably have to work around the steering wheel and column. make sure to unplug speedo and if shift indicator on dash careful not to break it.
Yeah you can remove the hood and enginge but it's much harder that way! Just kidding the dash is notthat hard to get out one speedo cable and four screws witll get the speedo head out so you can change the bulbs, they are miniture bulbs to.
