Hi there, just had the automatic gearbox on my 2003 chrysler neon lx repaired. when starting the the car the revs shoot to about 4k rpm and the engine light is on.

Need to have the the vehicle scanned for the trouble code most auto stores offer this service for free ---the code will assist in correcting or pin pointing reason of problem ---if repair was recent possible can be related check if under warranty

My rpm shoot up and no power


On the basis of a 7 word statement with no other info or context , I can offer the following:

1. You are in neutral or park;
2. If manual gearbox , your clutch may be slipping;
3. If automatic gearbox, your torque converter may be slipping.

Engine revs high in park & neutral


you could have a vacum leak some where in the system that can cause high rpm,also if you have a bad tps(throttle position sensor) it can cause this type of problem.you don`t say if you have check to see what is turning on the check engine light and what code is in the computer.this should have been done and may have help to find the problem in the begining.

2005 neon hard brakes engine races


While your car is running.......pop the hood and find the throttle body. The throttle body is where your air filter tube/hose goes to the engine. Locate the throttle position sensor which should be on the side of the metal throttle body. This should be the item causing this. If you grab the plug that is on the sensor and wiggle it while the car is running then the engine should rev and act up if thats the problem. If not let me know and I can direct you further. Thanks.

O3 ford escape wont rev over 4k rpm,new battery,any solutions?


First thoughts are low fuel pressure or a restriction in the exhaust.
Is the check engine light on ?

My 2003 neon stalls as soon as I take my foot off of the accelerator pedal or slow down it just dies....i put it in neutral and rev the engine and it revs to 4000 rpm and just breaks up....i just changed...


you may have a dirty fuel filter or the throttle plate may need cleaning.the throttle plate is the valve that moves in the intake when you move the gas pedal.if they get too dirty they cause a restriction in the intake and cause the car to stall.it also could be a tps sensor problem but this should put the check engine light on but not always.the breaking up of the motor when you rev it to 4000 rpm`s is the rev limiter in the computer that shuts down the firing of the plugs and injecotrs so you don`t cause damage to the motor when there is no load on it.

Bmw x5 2003 03reg diesel onboard computer says fuel inject.system when i acceleration is all the way down then is not driving same like before i have to stop and start ingine to come back to normal .

I am presumming this is a diesel? please confirm.

It sounds like an EGR fault, exhaust gas recycler valve, this will make the car lose a lot of power and cause the engine light. Normally will not rev over 3-4k rpm with the light on.

Hello My 18 year old neighbour bought his first car last week, a '95 Chrysler Stratus 2.0 with manual gear box. Now the tachometer is broken, I was told that there were some plastic parts inside it...


the engine has a rev limiter inbuilt,so after 6250 revs it will cough and sputter.the rev counter is for people who drive to strict rev limits to conserve fuel,and the obvious drivers who drive to the max power/engine revs for "fun"most men drive to the "sound" of the engine,so a rev counter is excess to requirements....save your money.(once he gets his "no claims discount" down he will buy a bmw anyway.........)

Have you checked the fluid level? May need transmission service due to plugged fluid intake filter, or badly worn third gear clutch.

Auto Chrysler Neon Petrol consuming issue


That's only 17 or 18 MPG/U.S. Gal. Not very good for a Neon. When was engine serviced last, as in air filter, oil filter , oil change, and perhaps a scan for any trouble codes? What type of driving conditions?

If you find one that has a 4-speed and the same engine size, then they will fit. What you need to watch for is that you get the correct gear ratio tranny to keep your car operating properly. I only know one way to know for sure and that is a number stamped just above the pan rail on the bottom oil pan. It will be long and have some letters at the start of it. You may be able to get that to a dealership and have them look it up. If the donor transmission is still in the car then the vehicle id number should tell you what ratio the trans is when it's looked up. That is how it's done with the US cars, it may vary a bit with the UK ones, but I am not sure.
