Question about 1998 Saab 900
I have a 1998 Saab 900SE Turbo with 90K and the engine is acting up but only when it's idling at a stop light. The engine seems like it wants to die but doesn't. I took it to a Saab dealer and they charged me $150 to change the plugs and of course that didn't help. Now the check engine light is on and I'm hesitant to take it back to Saab again. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Thanks.

There are a couple of reasons why you are experiencing these concerns. The following are examples of what can be wrong or malfunctioning with your Saab. First check the idle air control valve. This valve controls the amount of air being distributed to your Intake manifold by bypassing the throttle body. This valve is controlled by the computer, make sure the wiring is ok and connected correctly. If you wish to clean the valve you can but make sure you use a carb cleaner or equivalent and remove all the debris and chemical. Secondly the fuel pump.
The fuel pump is hard to diagnose because it can lead you around other concerns like the ignition system. One way to check the fuel pump is to use a test light on the fuel pump circuit. On the 900se it should be fuse #37(not absolutely positive) while the car is running you can check the fuse. If there is power in the circuit and the engine wants to die out check the wiring for the fuel pump all the way to the tank. If there is no continuity than repair the wire that is damaged there should be continuity on all the wires. If all checks out ok but it keeps failing change the fuel pump. If you find that the fuse blown on the fuel pump circuit check the wiring if it is ok change the pump.
There are many things to check on your saab hopefully you find this helpful.
