I have pulled the starter off my 98 vw jetta gls and installed the new one but the bolts will not go in the mount

Undo both bolts and make sure the statermotor is fully home before fitting the bolts. Dont tighten the bolts fully, fit them by hand first then tighten up.
These are steel bolts winding into alloy housing so dont over tighten.
Make sure the wiring loom is clear too.

Engine thermostat location

follow the upper radiator hose. thats the big one that come out the top corner. and follow it to the engine. the hose will clamp onto a metal fitting. and the fitting will then bolt onto the top of the engine with 2 or 3 bolts. undo those bolts and thats the thermostat on the inside of it. just remember to drain out about 1/3 of the radiator fluid. otherwise you will have a big mess, when you undo those bolts.

How do I change the oil

there is an oil drain plug (BOLT) under your car on the bottom or side ( edge) or the oil pan. get yourself a catch can like some sort of plastic bucket that will fit. Undo that bolt and let it drain. Undo the oil filler cap under your hood on your motor so that it drains more completely and faster. I reccommend changing your oil filter which usually just unscrews, you may need a strap wrench to help it off, prepare for some spillage. Put new oil filter on, put the oil drain bolt back in ( usually with a new washer, you dont have to but it is recommended) and pour however much oil your car calls for, into the oil filler hole. Get yourself some rags and a funnel to help :)

Himself has tried to replace the battery on the 03 frelander. managed to get the top bit holding the battery off but the bolt holding th batery into the clip won't undo - just spins around any ideas?!

If you are talking about the battery clamp bolts turning, then put a screwdriver in the split of the clamp and try to put turning pressure on the screwdriver and at the same time undo the nut of the clamp bolt. Or if you have a pair of mole grips, clamp the bolt head and undo the nut. Worst case , pry the clamp off the terminal and use a hacksaw and cut the bolt in half and remove it , fit a new bolt after. Hope that helps

How do you remove and replace the radiator of a 1997 EL Ghia?

first undo the hoses, there are 4 water hoses and 2 oil hoses, the bottom hose is difficult on the high side because of the alternator.
un plug the 2 wire connections (don't forget the locking tabs) then undo the air duct held by 2 screws. followed by 2 bolts located on the top of the radiator and lift the fans straight up
there are 2 larger bolts that hold the radiator in at the top. lift straight up.
when replacing be sure to place in locators in the bottom of radiator and fans
