visually check crank sensor(common problem)
check for fuel pressure on fuel rail there is a shrader valve for that. pull a spark plug wire and confirm spark.
make sure air box isnt plugged.

if all that is good change the control module. good luck hunting

Most probable cause is a bad BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR (BMR). This part is located underneath the right side of the dash mounted into the blower motor housing. The BMR has a circuit board that is suseptible to corrosion and moisture damage because it is in an enclosed area with much condensation. After replacing it a couple of times, the 3rd time I dipped the circuit board in TOOL DIP - the stuff you rubber coat screw drivers with - have not had a problem since (3 years).

Sounds like it's you spark plug leads. Depending which engine you have in there, if you have the 2.4L then it is a module.

The ignition modulator may have to be replaced, you can pick one up at Auto Zone and it's still pretty expensive so you may want to try the Salvage yards. The ignition modulator's are common interchangeable part for the GM line so you can get one from a newer car then your 89 cavalier. Good luck and hope this helps. I believe Auto Zone can also test the ignition modulator too, the modulator is what the coils sit on.

Engine light blinking, shaking Has a misfire bad enough that will damage the catalytic converter . Bad coil's , plug's , ignition module going bad . Have the vehicle checked for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes .

Runs smooth then runs rough & rough back to smooth running.

If your check engine light comes on get it checked. To me it sounds like an engine misfire probably cause by a coil pack or spark plug wire going bad. The misfire should cause the check engine light to come on maybe even flash if the misfire is bad enough

You may want to check for fuel volume and fuel quality. There may be moisture in the fuel. It would also help to know which cylinders it is misfiring on. Scan tool will show the misfire on live data.

When i first start out when driving my 1994 chevy cavalier i step on the gas and it hesitates for a sec but then runs ok.this happens almost everytime i start out i had the fuel pump tested and it tested...

If it is the spark wires you get a misfire code, and probably the CEL.
Read codes, check vacuum system and sensors.

let me know if you need more help with the issue.

I'm getting a code P0300 On my wifes 2003 Chevy Cavalier

That indicates a cylinder misfire. Could be a bad plug or a bad or dirty fuel injector.

2003 chevy cavalier 2.2 auto. 2003 chevy cavalier 2.2 auto. Without a/c, everything is normal. If the a/c is turned on, the engine rpms will go to between 2,000 and 3,000 rpms. If you shut...

Your AC compressor is broken, seized or has a bad bearing. Inspect the belt and then the pulley. Go from there. RPM rise is ok when AC is on, but not such a huge one.
