SOURCE: where is the power steering sensor located on a pt

i have changed the pressure sensor switch on my 2001 PT Cruiser (B). to find it you will have to put the car on ramps and go under the car until your under the cross member (right behind the front wheel) it will be just behind the cross member closer to the driver side wheel. remember once you remove the sensor gravity will work against you and power steering fluid will pour out of the sensor hole. and when under a car there is really no place to go and if your not careful you will have to resign yourself to being covered in fluid. good luck!

SOURCE: my 2002 pt cruiser lost power steering suddenly

check to see if the serpantine belt is still there. It sounds like like it broke. this belt runs all of the accesories on the vehicle including the water pump. So if this happened it probably starting running hot too

From the looks of the diagram it does run the water pump as well so unless you want to replace the head i would park it.

Power steering leak

Replace the pump. The pressure regulating valve must be stuck and causing this leak. Either that or you are just unlucky and getting some really crappy hoses.

Power steering leak

start the engine and allow it to idle, turn the steering wheel lock to lock several times to boost fluid pressure. then look under engine compartment you should see the leak also check the fluid reservoir for sign of foaming. This will indicate a leak check hoses around the pump area ect. hope this help
