2006 Buick Rendezvous 10 Amp ABS fuse keeps blowing. What could be the problem?


There is a shot to ground in the ABS system ! If familiar with electrical trouble shoot , find a wiring diagram an test the B+ power circuit ! That fuse supply's power to the electronic brake control module , if no short on wire from fuse box to brake control module , the module has an internal problem .

Will the abs sensor lock up the wheels on a 2004 Chevy Tahoe


No, an abs sensor only senses the speed of the wheel. When one wheel locks up or is running considerably slower than the other wheels during braking the ABS system will reduce the braking power to that wheel to stop it locking up, hence the term Anti Lock Brakes. This happens in milliseconds. The sensor itself cannot lock a wheel up.

if voltage is greater than 10 volts replace abs module if not
check fuse described in upper section if fuse is bad replace if it blows again you need to check wiring

Brake line diagrams dont exist like wiring diagrams do. If your truck has ABS, that's the ABS controller, and if not it's just the proportioning/metering valve.

My ABS light is on and off on a 2006 Mercury Mariner. Do I need to do something to get this light to stay off

  • Hydraulic control unit (HCU)
  • Anti-lock brake control module
  • Front and rear wheel speed sensors
  • Front and rear wheel speed sensor rings
  • Stability control sensor cluster
  • Stability/traction control switch
The ABS prevents wheel lock-up by monitoring the wheel speed sensors and actuating the HCU modulating the brake pressure to prevent wheel lockup. By preventing the wheels from locking up, the driver is able to maintain steering control and stop in the shortest possible distance under most conditions. The traction control system utilizes the same components as the ABS to prevent wheel spin and help maintain vehicle control during acceleration. The roll stability control (RSC) system utilizes the same components as the ABS and the traction control systems and also monitors the steering wheel position sensor and the stability control sensor cluster to assist in stabilizing the vehicle during abrupt maneuvers.

The ABS module is self monitoring. The module will carry out a preliminary electrical check of the hydraulic pump motor by turning the pump ON for approximately 1/2 second either when the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position and the brake pedal is not pressed or when the vehicle is in motion and at vehicle speeds above 20 km/h (12 mph). The ABS module will also carry out a wheel speed sensor self-test by sending a reference voltage to all of the wheel speed sensors through their circuitry when the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position, with or without brake pedal application. If a malfunction is detected in the pump or wheel speed sensors, the ABS module will shut down and disable the anti-lock system. Normal power assisted braking, however, remains.

You may need to have the dealer run a scan test to determine the DTC fault codes. Then go from there. Autozone can't read these codes as tehy are chassis codes. They only can read powertrain codes.

My ABS light is on and I had it checked and they said it must be something with the control unit or module, but before the light came on the blazer sometimes acted like it was not going to stop, what could...


hmm ok this is a tough one.. Its more than likely one of two things..

1.) the abs sensor.. this will account for the light being on and it will also account for the brake not working propperly.. to verify this,, Locate and remove the abs fuse.. Its in the fuse panel under the hood.,, under the cover is a diagram with the fuse layout.. remove the abs fuse and drive with the vehicle.. If your brake works perfectly then you need to change the abs sensor,,

2.) the second is the bran box / the ECU (control unit) ,, to verify this you will need to have a diagnostic machine (code reader) connect to the module and detect all the fault codes.. This is not likely but very possible.. Verify the sensor first and then check the control unit..

Now take into consideration that is the abs is not working propperly and you remove the fuse ,, YOUR BRAKE WILL WORK!!!! just the abs system wont,, you can drive your car safely without the abs,, it will just like driving a car with no abs or before they invented it.. what the abs does is hold and release quickly so you dont get an abrupt stop,, with the abs you will stop quicker so it will take a bit getting used to so you wont step on the pedal hard,,

Look under the hood where the ABS unit sits.(on drivers side)

Make sure the engine is NOT Running and the key is OFF. Also check that the parking brake is Not Engaged at this time.

First unplug the two wire connector on the ABS unit. IIRC the wire colors for this connector are Red and Black, and they are of a fairly thick gauge.

The ABS/Brake light will remain on at this time if you start the motor, so skip that and look for a second connector on the ABS unit. This one has multiple wires and are much thinner gauge than the first connector. **Unplug this connector. With key OFF, pump the brake pedal 10-15 times. Start the motor and there should be no ABS or Brake lights illuminated on the dash.

You just completely eliminated the ABS Unit from your braking system and will only have NON- ABS power brakes from now on. The ABS unit will only act as an extended brake fluid reservoir and will not influence braking an any way...you will have to pump the brakes yourself if needed.

On my personal vehicle...also a '94 S10, I went one step further and fabricated an ABS pump elimination kit that allowed me to physically remove the entire unit and tie the lines back into the system using a simple valve found on many domestic master cylinders. I may fab up some kits if there is any interest, but it's really not needed...I'm just anal about my vehicles.

**NOTE: Some GM ABS units have two additional plugs besides the two wire connector, if so just unplug them both.

ABS brake module sounds like a motor running and won't stop unless battery is disconnected. what is fix?


I would pull the fuse for the ABS hydraulic pump and then put it back in and see what happens. Don't ever recall a pump running. Dealer may need to hook up scan tool for diagnostic fault codes, DTCs.



Principles of Operation
The ABS control module receives wheel speed readings from both front wheel speed sensors and the rear differential speed sensor, and processes this information to determine if an ABS event is necessary. The wheel speed sensor electrically senses each tooth of the ABS sensor indicators as it passes through the wheel speed sensor's magnetic field.
The ABS control module continuously monitors and compares the rotational speed of each wheel speed sensor indicator and, when it detects an impending wheel lock, modulates brake pressure to the appropriate brake caliper(s). This is accomplished by triggering the hydraulic control unit (HCU) to open and close the appropriate solenoid valves. Once the affected wheel returns to normal speed, the ABS control module returns the solenoid valves to their normal position, and normal (base) braking resumes.
The ABS control module is self-monitoring. When the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position, the ABS control module will do a preliminary electrical check, and at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph), the pump motor is turned on for approximately one-half second. Any malfunction of the ABS system will cause the ABS to shut off; normal power assisted braking, however, remains.
