SOURCE: when it gets hot outside,
You may have computer sensor problems. Humidity and temperature of air affect fuel regulation controls in moden engines. Cool morning to hot afternoon and system still thinking it is cool thus engine has very poor performance. This vehicle has what is called a driveability issue and is ususally a bear to figure out without the proper scanning equipment.

SOURCE: if i stop or let
Mine did that to me about 4 months ago. I started by changing the fuel filter it ran great for a month. but by doing that it released all the pressure off of the fuel pump which then went out. If you run your vehicle below 1/4 tank it starves the fuel pump. The pump needs that fuel because; The fuel is the lubrication for the pump. Running your tank down consistently over a period of time will short the pump out faster.

SOURCE: Starving for fuel?
my car juzt recentl;y had the same problem.. i went through every fuel method possible.. the caddeltic converter... the fuel ignition... fuel pump.... fuel sensor...... it ended up being the fuel pump in the end but it could be any of these... the 300zx 88 has a recall for the fuel injectors from nissan. if ur car is elible you can take it to nissan for free to be fixed.. try to take it to a mechanic and have them put it onn the computer. like i said it could be many thing so no one can just know what it is from discription. have to get it checked out

Did the new pump come with an upgraded wiring harness? GM had problems with the connector that plugs into the pump assembly on top of the tank. The better brands of pumps come with this upgraded wiring. You might want to check into that.

Change the fuel filter. It is usually located passenger side along the frame rail ahead of the rear tire. You're right, it's starving for gas & because of this your fuel line is heating up & causing vapor lock. This is why your car won't start when hot. Good luck!
